Here is the beaver harvest, they also taste like beef.

This year i have gotten two ruffed grouse, a snow shoe hare and just trapped two beavers last night. (Yes i do eat and save the meat/hide from the beavers)

One beaver we think is around 70lbs.
I had a patient bring me some beaver summer sausage a couple years ago!!! It was delicious!!

@itsasmallfarm - Out of curiosity, what is beaver paying you from buyer? I know they're around here but we don't have any we could trap - mainly raccoon.
Any where from 10-20 dollars for the fur but the castors can be worth up to like up to 90 a pound keep in mind this is CAN are dollar sucks compared to yours lol

Do you eat the raccoons? Heard storys of people eating them, am not some one who likes the throw away good meat. If there good to eat that is.

@itsasmallfarm - Surprisingly not - it actually ends up being trap bait. Have never tried raccoon though I have a few recipes - I've trapped 100% males lately and not sure how they'd taste to be honest. I've heard oldtimer tales of catching possum and (do not try at home) putting them in a barrel and feeding fruits/veggies/table scraps for a few weeks then killing to eat by essentially cleaning their system out. Again, not something I've done.

Yea, I hear the castor is the big deal - alot of our trapping companies we order from have the word out about buying it this year. But from what I heard at trappers meeting a few years back, fur market isn't doing too well. :(

Ya the market is not great at the moment. The only real bright side is coyotes. But hopefully the market picks back up.

A funny story I hope someone can appreciate. So I'm an early planner - I'm working on Christmas ridiculously early as always. My husband has been wanting a pack-basket from one of our favorite trapping supply companies for awhile, and I ordered him one along with some urine lure/traps. Merry Christmas gift of his new pack stuffed with trapping supplies. The box comes in today - UPS driver being considerate as normal leaves the box wrapped triple time in plastic in case of rain since we weren't at the house. There is an odor coming from the box through three layers of plastic. I unpack the box eventually and the contents are in order - nothing busted or leaking. It's the box- the packaging smells as if its been in a room where a bottle busted, or as if something has spilled on it. I tape the box up tightly and bring inside to wrap, thinking the wrapping paper would help. Wrong. The whole house begins to flood with a horrid odor. My husband begins to wonder what the smell is, so the now wrapped Christmas gift has been officially booted outside into the shop for the next few months. I'm sure he has already decoded what it is, but Christmas will be smelly this year. May need to open this gift outdoors. :lau

I fish! Earlier this summer I went on a trip to the Wind River Mountains to go after Golden Trout. I saw a ton, but didn't catch any (after about four hours of fishing). A companion of mine caught a Golden!

However, we all caught a ton of Brook Trout. On the first day between the three of us we caught 50+ fish, and we kept track!!! One Cutthoat too.
