The hunting/fishing thread!

I also have some other questions

Do I need to boil my trap again because of the skunk so I have better chances with getting the Coon?

And will the racoon come back to the same place I caught the skunk? Or do I need to put the trap further off so I don't deter it because of the smell or w.e?

Ok thank you!
If you de proceed to skin it. Use a very sharp small Jack knife blade. With a very rounded point to it.. very very rounded. Very very small very very very sharp.

I can not emphasize that enough. Also I suggest you do it outdoors a long ways from anyplace you need to be.

I also hope you are very very very experienced at skinning fur.

I being older than the hill and being forced to run a trap line before milking cows before going to school from the time I was 7 years old, and having learned from my grandpa who was an excellent trapper, and born back when trapping was a major source of family income. He was born in 1878. ( yep, that means I am very very old)

I have skinned or skun, many a fur bearer. I watched Grandpa skin one once. However, I have never caught one when the fur was prime. So I never skun one out.

Which brings my next point.. why are you wanting to skin any animal this time of year when they are not prime?

Do you still trap frequently?

I actually decided not to skin it because they aren't prime. And no I haven't had very much experience skinning anything at all because I just moved to the country.

I still have a lot to learn about trapping, but I want to learn as much as I can
Usually there's a fur bearer season for trapping. That's when pelts are usually prime. Usually there's licences required.
Skunk smell will not usually bother a raccoon.
I only skinned one skunk and nicked the gland... never got the smell out of that pelt.

I have heard of the seasons, but there is a law in co that if it's gonna harm your livestock it is legal to kill it. I also have a small game license

Ok thanks!!

Oh man. That's awful

Yes I dp trap the predators....61 raccoons since June 2020... neighbors feed them and when they go on vacation the hungry hoard descends on my flock... No market for pelts around here anymore.

Good to practice on non stinky predators before you try a prime one you want to keep
