The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Irene I think it would hard to use another color like that because of adding black into the tail feahters and then trying to get the color right after you get the body type like you want. Just my opinion. I could be wrong. It would be pure Orp but off coloring for a long time I think.

I hatched 4 - these two and two other very pretty girls. I'm doing a bit of flock reduction because I am going to start breeding Coronation Sussex and Silver Pencil Plymouth Rocks.

My two girls that I'm keeping are for my eye-candy pen. They are gorgeous!

Renie'sPeeps :

I have questions...... I am wanting to improve my American style Buff Orps by breeding them to one of Charlie's sons I got from Julie. Would I be creating Mutts?? Would the chicks still be considered pure Orp? My goal is to produce English type Buff Orps. Now... would a blue roo be the best color to try this out??

Joy you asked me the other day what my plans were... well this is one of them. I hope it was ok to ask these questions here.

You can not put a blue on buff, you will have mixed colored birds. They turn out blue with lots of orange in them. Not good.

He will play catch up, some cockerels do when they are slow to feather in. Love the little pullet!!!! She is going to be very nice.

Daphne - Looks like your chickens are going to have a lovely place. Same here - much needed repairs/updates to the house come after chicken coops

Cheryl - is that cockerel the same age as the pullet? How old is he? That is one weird looking bird. The pullet looks wonderful.

They are 8 1/2 weeks. You may recall he was the one everyone was so interested in seeing how he feathered in...They are from Sandy's eggs...I guess we will have to wait and see how he feathers in a bit longer. I'll tell you though his lacing is gorgeous on the few feathers he does have

Have you tried giving him some Vits. to his feed? Quite a few of us have had chicks especially cockerels be very slow to feather in, once they do they become quite handsome.
