The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

I wanted to share pictures of one of my culls, "Rock Star" at 27 weeks. Technically he is a cull since I removed him from my breeding stock. But, in all reality it was just a geographic change since he has been given a 12 x 12 stall and two girlfriends (Wyandottes on loan) to keep his spirits up. He will sire all my future hens for eating eggs. I know you all don't post pictures of culls, but he's won my heart since he likes to pose and I like to paint.

Anyhow, his claim to fame is how he works the camera and the ladies. Let's just say, vigor he doesn't lack, but at the same time is gentle.. Notice in the last pictures how big his chest gets when his "honies" are nearby.

Has his comb always been like that? In Oklahoma when it gets hot, sometimes I have combs flop over.

I know I'm only just starting out here, but I wouldn't think twice about having a young'in' from this guy!

Dee he has fantastic body type. I would breed him to a girl with correct comb and see what happens. I love his very gold hackles. I like more of the gold gold color on the GL's more than the mahogany color

No, his comb was a perfect 5 point, then...overnight, it flopped. Don, of the ones that you had flop, did any of them correct themselves?
No, they never came back up. I did use one in breeding pen the next year. He was my best one and he didn't sire any flop combs. I think it's the weather. I would not cull that guy, look at that lacing in his chest. Cull him and later you will wish you had him. Nice, very nice.

Dee this is one of the first birds i saw that made me want imported Orps. The lady that had him used to email me and we would talk. She gave me permission to share his pic. She lives in Poland and imported from Germany. they really have a gift with the Orpsl His lacing all the way to the back end is amazing. I love his gold

Thanks everyone. Christmas has arrived early then. He really is my favorite. I only had 3 Gold-Gold cockerels out of nine. All three have the green sheen in their black. Those were the three that I kept. All the other cockerels, well, act like sweet, goofy chickens. Rock Star, struts and poses. You can't ever get a bad shot of him. He demands attention.

Julie, I spend a lot of time looking at GL all over the world. I totally agree, the Germans have done a fantastic job with THEIR variety.

I'm so excited.

Yippee!

Dee are you still going to Pensacola show next weekend?. I will be there with a few pitiful Orps. Not my best but I want some birds shown so I will get them out of their pens and spiff them up a bit. I am taking a choc bantam too. If you are going I will pm you a pic of me so you will be able to recognize me at the show. I try to wear name tags. I am the one with silver hair.

Yes, I will be there! My first "chicken show"! I will bring my camera so that I can share pics with everyone here. I will be staying an hour away and am looking forward to meeting you and seeing the beautiful birds! I am sure what you are calling "pitiful" will be worth the travel. If I can make it to the hairdresser, I will NOT have my silver showing! But, I will be accompanied by the most handsome man there! You'll be able to spot him right away.
