The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

I did not know that. Thank you for sharing that information.

Were you thinking of getting a split to black, carrying the chocolate gene cockerel, where all pullets would be chocolate?

No problem!

I was actually thinking about keeping a Blue boy and a Chocolate boy together in the same flock. I have a separate breeding area for when I want to do controlled matings that I could separate either boy and some girls to for specific hatches.

Hey you all. I took a few pics this afternoon and thought you might enjoy seeing some blacks. This girl right here is going to be 7yrs old in June. Grandma is her name. She doesnt lay much anymore but she was one of my original hens that came from Sandhill when I first started loving Orps and had no idea about the imports. She has always been very English typey

I will post more later. My DH needs me to go some where right quick
Julie she looks like she was shipped here directly from the UK! What a beauty!

Do you still hatch any eggs that you get from her?

Thanks all. I hatch if she lays. She fusses about the Roos a bit. I usually let her stay in whatever pen she wants. She is a sweet girl.
Here are a few more of my black hens

Here is another girl that is really large in the pen next to the others. I am not letting her in with a roo till I see if I am showing her again. She is sorta scrunching down. Not one of the blacks are laying yet There combs havent' turned bright red yet since coming through the molt

This cock hasn't quite finished his molt. He has a beautiful tail when he is in full regalia. His comb is to big but otherwise a good breeder.

Julie,
Your birds are always so very large. I have found them to produce just as large. Didn't you have a male that was even larger than 12 lbs if I remember correctly? What great contributions you and joy have done for the hobby and the both of you are also so honest and helpful. It is so great to know some very creditable individuals in the hobby.

:love Grandma. But then I are one so maybe I'm a bit tainted! hehe. By the way, isn't if funny how you can tell the young from the old? No one would ever have told me that "once upon a time." And I may not be able to always now. But the young ones, they just look.. young. Love your birds! All of them!

Thanks Harry. I have had heavier and he problably will gain a bit more weight in the next few months. He is still gaining back from the molt and none of them have their red combs back yet. I have a young cockerel that I think will finish huge. He is large now for 8 months. I am going to put him over the girls after I hatch a few from this boy. See who produces the best. Sure is good to see them all looking so good again. When their in a molt you have to pictures out to remind you they are not five dollar chickens
