The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Thanks BamaChicken. I was just about to fill out an entry form for the Newnan show and trying to decide black, splash or both...I was worried that showing the splash might be slightly frowned upon, but I think I'll do it and see what happens.

Hopefully the worst this snow storm bypasses us. They are saying west of I-81 will get 1-4" and possible sleet/freezing rain. I'd rather that than the east of I-81's 6+ inches of snow. I mean, the skunks have come out of hibernation and the geese are coming back already. In my opinion, that means winter is over!

Edited... I was wondering... My blue and black LF Orps have not started to lay yet. They were just getting color in their faces when I bought them in July or August. I am assuming they are about 8-10 months now. I was also assuming that three day spell of 45-65 degree weather would get some of these girls laying. It helped some of my girls, but these Orps didn't start yet. Should I be expecting some eggs soon or it is to early yet?

Edited again... I got them early July and my profile pic is of one of them when I first got them. I have my chocolate boys in with them and I am anxious to start hatching some eggies!

Please take pictures when you go to the show!!

The snow is really pounding down here, we already had 3 inches early than the ice started, and now more snow on top of the ice. It is going to be a bad storm.

These Orps love this weather. They do not seem to mind all of that wet snow at all. I made paths for them, yet they trudge through the big drifts. Such lovely birds..I did not want them getting all wet and than chilled so I put them back in..they are not happy campers.

Just a new picture this morning. The broody took the clutch out of the nest this morning. She has 6 black English Orps.

Was noticing some of the different colored E. Orps don't looks as fluffy. For example, most of the pictures posted of the blacks, splashes, and blues look very fluffy and short backed. The pictures I have been seeing of the lavenders just look less fluffy and their backs seem a touch longer. Is it a lighting thing or is there an actual difference due to genetics?
Thanks!

Lavender color is pretty new in the States. I think they worked on color in some cases and lost form. IMO
