Are these pictures? They look painted.
I hear hear the excitement.Getting a set of juvie Black English Orpingtons and 13 Blue, Black, and Chocolate split eggs! These will be my first! I have read through over a couple hundred pages here and definitely picked up some information-- looking for the horse shoe tail, not pinched, hens give the size, dark eyes, etc. I am sure there is MUCH more I need to know and I do have a few questions.
Jeremy asked closer to the beginning of the thread, but I didn't see an answer to his question, and I am wondering now too.
You're looking for the horse shoe shape, but some tails are full while others are kind of an outline with the horse shoe shape? Does that make sense? Which one should I be looking for?
And, this is goofiness, but in my excitement to have them, I didn't think to ask how old "juvenile" is with chickens. lol
I should be breeding for a U shape body, 45 or 35 degree angle on the tail? How should the wings sit?
Any other information or advice for a newbie? I have NEVER concerned myself with SOP before and this will be the first time I've ever bred anything with intent. It will basically be the first time I've bred anything at all except incubating eggs from a mutt flock once.
I'm in love with everyones beautiful birds and particularly fond of seeing Minerva. <3 <3 <3 The pure English Lavender roo? UGH! Beautiful! Olympia and Octavia...all of them...gorgeous. I love these names too! I hope I can come up with as pretty names as those.
I have my very first set of lavenders right now too that are partial English. They're still younguns. I'm wanting to use the Black I'll be getting to improve them when it's time.
