On a different topic. My friend who was suppose to introduce me to his elderly friend with the imported SL Orps didn't happen. This gentlemen had a heart attack Friday and is in the hospital 4 hours away and could not be there at my friends to meet me. Since my bud is taking care of his birds for him while he recovers he did pick up the eggs for me. I drove the 2 hours to my buds and picked up the 25 eggs the elderly gentleman had been saving for me and have them now. While I was there my bud showed me some pics he snapped of the old mans birds on his camera. I gotta say these r def the real deal r huge poofy round and laced very well except for one one pair in the group. Both these birds r huge and very typey but lacing is a lil smutty on those 2. The elderly gentlemen sent his apologies that he was unable to meet me but wanted to make sure I got the eggs b4 they got old. I thought this was super nice of him and hope all goes well and he returns home soon as I would love to meet him. I am gonna send him a get well card and a gift.

The eggs r very large and all even shades of cream. Since the old man just eats the eggs and doesn't sell my bud checked the coops while he was there and found a buff egg from this gentleman's 1 pair of imported buff Orps he has also and included that egg as well. I had origionally asked b4 I met to get the eggs if this elderly gentlemen might sale a few birds. He didn't mind giving me a clutch of eggs but the birds r his pets and each one has a name and is special so he isn't willing to part with any at this time. Told my bud if his friend ever changes his mind I am very interested un purchasing all his birds. At this time he only has a small flock of American lavs. 7 SL imports with 2 of those being roos and 1 pair of the buff imports in which Im told that hen altho only a couple years old does not lay very well at all. Turns out this old man has had the silver laced in the US for about 4 years now except for 1 of the roos and 3 hens who were hatched and raised there by one of the SL hens a couple years ago.

I feel really really bad for this elderly gentlemen as this is his 3rd heart attack. What a nice man to still be concerned with making sure I got my eggs. I am very excited and greatful to my friend for doing this for me and hope I am able to meet the elderly gentleman soon and thank him in person and at least offer to pay him for the eggs. The poor guy is 72 years old but this just goes to prove there r still some very nice people out there. I will b crossing my fingers for a great hatch so I can continue to work with and carry on this mans line.

Also wanted to add an interesting note. My bud said that he didn't think this man got them from the UK and is almost positive that they were from Germany and they origionally came as eggs. I had no clue there was silver laced orpingtons in Germany. The old man is origionally from Germany and speaks German and English so bud sd he is almosr pos that's where he aquried them and the buffs as almost all his family still resides in Germany.

We have a 100 acre Heritage Farm/Park in our Area. We are members and I love this place. They lost funding last years and there are things in need of repair but still wonderful. This is the chicken house and it has been out there for the last 20 years. It is a reproduction made when park was being put together. Has Wood shingles. I used to donate barred rock chicks when I raised them to help them keep this breed for the farm. I love the nest boxes they have built. One of the top nest was full of eggs. I want to make some like it. Maybe I can find some old wood planks.

These are great, thanks for posting

This lady is loving her new nest box. Thanks Marc for the nice hen. It's one of those storage bins from Wally world. I use these to store feed. They can hold (2) 50 lb. sacks. Of course, I had to snap another pic of my new big fella.

Phantom Rooster, that Roo has the prettiest face! I guess he's proud since he has that pretty lady.

I've received a question, via email, that I need help with in answering. I've been asked if a GL x Black cross would help improve lacing if crossed to blue? Opinions anyone?

That's an interesting question. One that I don't know the answer to. I have 3 chicks that are from BK(M) x GL(F). I haven't done the research to see where to take them to yet. I too would like some input. The chicks are just starting to feather out. They appear black but do have brown in the wings. The legs and beaks look more like the GL's. One has the typical GL markings.

IMO I think this is a bad idea and would cause red leakage to appear for many generations and isn't what I think most people would recommend to improve lacing. It is possible I guess that this would improve lacing but have a feeling the gold leakage would set in at maturity for many generations but suppose if u r doing a brown red or blue red project then go for it.
