The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

I have just a few black hatched out now. I actually have two older than these but just havent had free time to take pics.
I have about six on my backporch so made a pic of two blacks and splash. 3 weeks old. You can't really tell how biig they are in this photo but I am very pleassed with them so far.

I am excited about some blacks hatching. Seems like it took the black hens the longest to get through their molts and start laying again
Of course you can see this is a cockerel

but he was not at liberty to tell me that. He was a very nice gentleman, and very good at his job. He was respectful and thorough but kind

awwww..I love chocolates!
I got a question. All three of my orpingtons went brooding at the same time. Since I have no rooster I've been trying to get them out of that state. So far I've been throwing them out of the coop in the morning and L've moved their coop twice to different locations. They are still brooding. :( Is there a way to get them out of that state without going having to go out and find some hatching eggs or am I better off just getting it over with and finding some eggs for them to hatch?

Funny thing happened to me this morning (actually not so funny when I got to the bottom of the story). UDSA made a surprise visit to our farm today...........Yes, they are allowed to do that.

Hmmmm......seems that someone turned us in for illegal importing

(all lies I should add at this point).

The USDA inspector and I had a very nice visit. I showed him around the farm. Every coop has a clipboard with the birds picture that is in that coop, their point of origin, number of roos and hens and name of the breed even how to label the eggs ( the chicklets are accounted for as well). Nothing fancy but not much room for error.

He copied all my paperwork, import papers etc., and everything was legal and in order, every bird was accounted for. Not sure who would feel the need to file a false report/accusation, and it is my understanding they don't take to kindly to that either. Kind of disrupts everyone's day..........

Sorry if I posted in the wrong area but seemed to me it would be OK since it pertains to imported orps.

Anyway, I had to give him a whole list of names of illegal importers that I had......(just kidding about the list of names.....

The rest of the story is true, just not that last line, I just couldn't pass up the chance to say that

The last part is funny..the first part sort of pi**es me off. I feel like you are a relative of sorts since I am your baby's mamma. That ole protective instinct sort of kicks in.
Quote: Cute baby's Julie..Mine are all males too..10 males so far..sheesh..

It is a shame that people would waste their time to do that. I can say with confidence that I know your eggs were brought over legally.

I have been checked before - no biggie - as long as you have your paperwork in line - just make them a copy and off they go.

I do appreciate them checking me - I just wish they would do more checking - esp to the people on eBay that are buying eggs and convincing the UK sellers to ship!

Regards,
Richard

Thank you for the kind words Richard, anything new coming over this year
