And speaking of babies, I took some bad pictures of my two little ones yesterday. But I'm showing them off anyway. Love the profile picture and only wish they weren't so blurry! These guys are just now 2 weeks old.

And proud papa and momma

So proud to have such pretty grand chicklets ! Prince Harry looks so proud of his girls too !

Oh Sarah, they're so cute. What do you girls feed those Buffs for such a nice color? And no shafting...dream on Dee.

I don't have baby chick pictures like most of you

, buy here is MY baby. He does have a neck...I promise. But this is his favorite way to stand...Not sure why? I feel like I need to offer him a treat so that he'll stand pretty. Reminds me of showing dogs that would only strike a pose if there was a reward...My baby will be one next month and will officially be a Cock Bird. Hard to imagine.

Here's Max posing for a treat, Geez. He has me really trained

I wanted a picture of him by my blooming hydrangeas and the agapanthus that were in bloom, but...no...he had a different setting in mind.

Oh he is! Besides the two buff beauties he has 2 blues, a black, 3 hatchery buffs, and 2 mutts in his harem. And at only 6 months old, even the three year old biddies are his "girls" - something none of the other four roosters I've raised ever accomplished so young. I think it's the British accent. Gets them every time.

Dee,

He is simply beautiful!! Your yard is like a park! How do you keep it so beautiful and the chickens out of the flowers?

I will name him soon..
Her name is sweat pea it sounds like sweepy when I say it.

I was thinking of calling him Rake...lol

I love the name "Sweet Pea"! Rake? LOL That deserves an explanation. I guess if I can name one Rock, you can name one Rake.

The chicken yard has been a trial and error. So far, they will not eat established azaleas (yes I know about their toxicity), but devoured completely 5 one gallon azaleas newly planted. Nope, no one died. They live (coop/pen) under "posionous" trees (China Berries and Cherry Laurels -don't remember which one is the poisonous one), nope no one died. No toxicity of any kind from the necropsy I had done last year. What HAS worked so far are thick and slick leaves- cast iron, sasanquas, and camellias and hydrangeas. Ferns, they think are there for their nibbling pleasure. But, to answer your question, I don't keep them out. It's their yard. If they eat it, I dig it up and try something else. They are constantly moving the pine straw. And, I'm constantly raking it back. I tell my husband that their aerating the beds. I don't fertilize anything. That's their job. Which they take quite seriously. I do have some plants bordered by plastic green fencing. Really ugly. Hoping to remove that once the plants are established.

These are pictures before my Spring planting.

And, before someone flags this post for not being pictures of birds...here's what they also take very seriously. They sun bathe! When they're hot, they go under their canopy of trees which is always ten degrees cooler. Only the soon-to-be adults venture out in the open field of grass. The juveniles are half in the sun and half under the bushes. Smart babies. I hope this one makes you smile. Zoom in on their faces, if you can.
