The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

I also took pics of my 75% Eng Lavender Orps today too. They are all between 4-5 mo old. I have not culled the roos yet, there are 5 of them, waiting to see how they grow out. I'm leaning toward 3 that I like most, but will most likely only keep 2. I have 8 girls & don't want to over stress them. They are HUGE birds!

<<<<<this guy is my favorite of the roos, he's a robust & sweet boy!

How old are they? Do you have any pics? My jubilees are growing quite a bit.
I tried to get pics of the babies today- they mostly came out blurs because of how busy they are all the time. I did catch this guy drinking water, was about the only decent shot. I'll try to get more later of the others. In the 2nd you can see part of 2 others... They are about 4-5wks now I think?

Is it possible for a cockerel that is English to weigh almost 6 pounds at two months? I was told his sire weighs 14 pounds.

Any thing is possible. That does sound pretty hefty at 8 weeks old. I have some huge English, but, never that big at that age. Pictures please...
Here he is pictured with a SLW pullet about the same age. I know his weight is correct because I weighed him on a digital scale. The man who sold him to me owns his sire and dam.

He must have a super aging/maturing gene..that comb and wattles are huge for an 8 week old chick. That is amazing. Great gene to have to grow them up quickly. He must have gone threw a bag of feed all by himself. ..get a few dozen of those chicks and a person would need another job just for the feed.

nice lacing on that dotte

Thanks on the pullet I can't wait to see this years crop grown up. I free range all of my birds everyday from dawn to dusk in large pastures. So that helps on feed.

..He does look a bit older than 2 mos., hes certianlly going to be a good looking rooster.. I have a couple that have comb that size approaching 3 mos.havnt weighed them yet..but lot of people use the old 5 gallon bucket to guage size..maybe you could set one out there and get a pic or 2....hes going to be a good flock sire, hope you have some nice pullets to go with him...

.these were hatched mar 29th. photo taken last week.

the very best thing you can do is have those big pastures..it encourages them to grow properly and big! the big birds need to develop muscle and bone that can carry the big frame..you know that from having horses..everytime they move they stress the bone and it rests and gets stronger..they get nutients out of that pasture that cant be duplicated in the feeds and in my opinion, there is too much soybean in feeds that should be replaced with oats, alfalfa or something else.
