The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

One of our Partridge girls started laying today! Very excited.

Her comb has been red for the last two weeks so we have been waiting. She's the better sized of our two girls but a couple of weeks younger.
Congrats! I am still waiting for my lavs & my chocolates to start. One of my chocolates has had a red comb for about a month, still nothing the other is just starting to turn. I have SFH's that have been red for about 6 wks & have not begun to lay yet-

So I know I can probably uncover this information elsewhere, but this seemed like a good place to get a quick answer. I am looking to add some Blue Orphingtons to my flock, and I know that the offspring will not all be blue, my question is whether or not the black and splash offspring will still have blue chicks? Also is the temperament pretty calm like the standard Buffs? If I do decide to adopt this breed they would be sharing territory with my silkies.

Congrats....what line(s)??
Please do share pics when you get them 'home'

To be honest, I don't really know... I got them from Kevin Delong @ Clancy's Chicken Ranch in NY. I know most of his breeding stock comes from GFF, but I don't know about his BBS orpingtons. They are supposed to be 100% English. The photos look like nice birds. I did get my SFH's from him back in Feb, the parents of them are GFF & gorgeous birds! I hope these will be as nice. I'll post pics when they get here, supposed to be between 1-2 wks old & are shipping out to me Wed.

Anyone ever had oprpinton's from them or know someone who does???

Blacks will not unless mated with either a blue or splash. Two splash will always have splash offspring but the other combinations give different percentages of blue, black and splash.

where are you located cluckerbocker?

This is why it's so hard to get pictures of the Buffs we have from Vickie... as soon as I open the door to their pen they are running at me! They know who brings them yummy treats. They have names now. Xander (roo), Buffy (with the leg spiral) and Willow (no leg spiral).
