The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Hello again~ I'm from the Indiana Thread and have posted recently on this IEO Thread when I was trying to find a Jubilee and Lavender pullet. Kiniska and Contrastphoto both helped me find what I wanted. chickenscratchpoultry.com : - ) I thought you all might like the post that I just made on the Indiana Thread (it's such a busy thread that I barely have time to look at any others!)

My Jubilee Knows She’s Royalty
My daughter read that chickens like to look at themselves in mirrors, so she stuck a mirror in the yard the other day. I happened to catch Princess Adeline admiring herself today! I must say that she’s also quite intelligent because she occasionally looked behind the mirror to see where her twin was. I bet that freaked her out because the other side of the mirror was magnified. haha Meanwhile, Violet the Lavender was enjoying the nice temps today. (Disregard the weeds and long grass-- that’s where DH put sod after my five hens ate all of the grass over the fall/winter. DH is so glad to have grass back that he apparently can’t bear to cut it. ha)

Violet is actually a week older and a size larger, but you can’t tell that in the photos. Adeline has passed the scraggly stage and is getting fluffy.
Indiana thread member "danand" is the one who suggested the name Adeline, which means “Noble.” It should actually mean “Vain.” haha

Hi from over the river. I'm 30 min from the bridge. I've got Jubilees, BBS, and Bantam Chocolates. I just love them. They are just too pretty! Your girls are beautiful!....and the grass is fab too, lol.

Oh yes, nothing like mounds of white feathers

I've never seen their breeding stock, didn't even know they had the whites until they were sent in the box with the red, partridge & jubilee chicks. I did email Jenny @ GFF about the whites after I got them. She said they only hatch a limited amount of them & the parent birds were "European imports". She said they were" big, very good quality birds". Judging by these babies, I am pleased with them!
I notice what looks like some feathers on the partridge pullet's legs. Do the whites have stubs also ?

you know Vickie..couple years ago had the most facinating conversation with ancient australorp on one of the australian web sites ..pretty sure it was ross that is now here in aussie thread..the conversation was with i think a sussex breeder had a clean leg flock forever bred in his group..then decided one day to add an outside line..well that line was clean legged too always has been..whenever you cross something new into a line..its bound to kick up some dust..the chicks from this cross all had stubs..same thing happened to a leghorn breeder..even kicked up some interesting color..they acted like they kind of expected things to crop up when what they called stirring up some dust..they said it was simple to eliminate the stubs, color was a bit more interesting..

I'll take a stub, or 2, over bad color every time.
