The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Here is one of my "hopefuls" that I will possibly keep this year.

This LF Chocolate Cockerel hatched around the 1st of April. This photo was taken 3 weeks ago.
He looks good for his age (I think) and will keep him for another 2-3 months to see if he continues to improve.
I think he will be a keeper along with 2-3 pullets I have picked out

Beautiful

Thanks everyone for trying to help me sex my chicks..

Agreed, nice bird. I love black orps. Once I have time and resources to have anything but the buffs I'm going for blacks. But who knows, that could be years away or never.

thank you Bryce..i have such a soft spot for the black orps..that chocolate looks like hes going to be quite a good looking rooster..you will have to post some pics of him as he matures.

look at this monster egg laid by a 28 week old black English Orp Pullet the egg weighed 2.7 oz. she has been laying for 12 days and just yesterday she laid and egg that was about 1.5 oz.

Orpingtons are one of the 4 breeds of chickens I have; and, needless to say: even though had chickens over 20yrs., I am a novice to breeding. When I first subscribed to the Orp. thread, Dragon Lady-Vicki- took her time to explain my endless questions. She very generously shared her knowledge and expertise, and helped me because I am new to this breed, and as novice as one can possibly be. I am very thankful to Aveca-Lynnie- for her time and kindness to me as well. I am grateful to both ladies. It is definitely not easy for a new comer to become member of an established thread where most know each other, or friends with.

My husband owns a small, pre-press business in San Francisco. He does digital as well as traditional image and color manipulations for the wine industry, ads, catalogs, and entertainment industry. After any professional image manipulation, it would be very difficult to prove the changes made. Is it possible to do? yes! of course it is; but, would be very expensive venture. Often, what seems to be changed/manipulated shall be the result of the play of colors and light or the certain colors'(light frequencies) ability to spread, and even over power other colors. Some colors shrink ie., blues; but, yellows and warm red shades spread drastically, and if you get far enough from the object, those will be the colors one will notice first. Well, camera lens does the same.

Even though I am an artist, can not take a decent photo. I have a Cannon EOS digital camera which I only use the auto setting when taking photos of my birds. Often, I will have photos which turn out quite unusual, as if someone just had plenty of fun on the photo-shop but, they are natural, just the way the the lens of the camera captured it. Colors, and light will play many games..

I did not mentioned the name of my husband's work because it may seem like an advertisement. I wanted to share a photo in it's raw- untouched form which definitely looks like as if worked on, and it is not! Two days ago, I was taking photos of my RIR & NH, and due to hue differences, ended up with some shots which I did not expect, and wanted to share. Since they are not Orps., I am posting only one of them. Do not want to bore anyone : )
