OK, we're back in business. Thank goodness.

Bryce, that cockerel sure looks like he's going to be big. Keep us updated, please.

Lynne, what a nice chest on that black cock. How old is he? I thought I had a k in my blacks...but he might be a p ...LOL

Lots A Cluckin, I'd love to know if chicks hatched from those giganomous eggs turn out to be giant adults. Inquiring minds need to know.

LualShannon, not sure if you'd posted on this thread before, but I just wanted to tell you that I've loved your art and your babies!

Now question: I have a pullet that might have something going on in her eye. Maybe an infection? Not sure. Is there an antibiotic that can be used directly on the eye?

Dee, I had an interesting hatch once, a Jumbo leghorn egg, hatched out the largest chick EVER, I'm sure I have pics, it towered over my Orps in the same hatch….but within a few weeks….that leghorn was teeny tiny compared to the Orpies.

Would triple antibiotic ointment work?

Triple antibiotic? An over the counter Neosporin or something of the sort? Eyes just scare me to death.

Blarneyeggs, I asked such a stupid question because my biggest chicks don't always turn out to be my biggest adults. Sometimes, but not often. The alpha always turns out to be the biggest since he doesn't let the others eat as much. And the alpha isn't always the biggest when they're chicks. (The 'ole nature vs nurture)

I cracked the egg last night and it was a double yolker...both yolks were fertile

we have had this problem several times before it is usually caused by getting dirt in their eye or when they are free raging getting poked in the eye by a stick or even a blade of grass...first I would flush the eye with either water (filtered water would be best it just burns less) or an eye wash solution (Vetericyn All Animal Eye Wash is a good one) and just make sure there is no dirt or anything sticking to the inner eyelids...the last time i had to deal with an eye infection she had one little hair of a feather in her eye and I could never figure out why the eye ointment was not working..so one day I got her down and looked at her eye REALLY well first of all since she had had this infection for over a week she had a build up of infection almost behind her eye so I first had to push and wiggle that out then once I got it out I noticed that she had a piece of a feather on the inside of her eyelid so I got that out too and put some more antibiotic eye ointment in her eye and she got all better with in 2 days!

So I would recommend to first wash the eye really well look closely for any debris and or scratches to the eye. We went to our local cat and dog Vet and got some Neo Poly Bac they use that for cats and dogs and let me tell you it works wonders for chickens too!! and it only takes just a little dot for there little eyes. I put it in her eyes 2 x per day morning and night but if the infection gets or is severe I would do it 3-4 x per day.

Neo Poly Bac Is an ointment used specifically for eye infections.
