I cracked the egg last night and it was a double yolker...both yolks were fertile
we have had this problem several times before it is usually caused by getting dirt in their eye or when they are free raging getting poked in the eye by a stick or even a blade of grass...first I would flush the eye with either water (filtered water would be best it just burns less) or an eye wash solution (Vetericyn All Animal Eye Wash is a good one) and just make sure there is no dirt or anything sticking to the inner eyelids...the last time i had to deal with an eye infection she had one little hair on a feather in her eye and I could never figure out why the eye ointment was not working..so one day I got her down and looked at her eye REALLY well first of all since she had had this infection for over a week she had a build up of infection almost behind her eye so I first had to push and wiggle that out then once I got it out I noticed that she had a piece of a feather on the inside of her eyelid so I got that out too and put some more antibiotic eye ointment in her eye and she got all better with in 2 days!
So I would recommend to first wash the eye really well look closely for any debris and or scratches to the eye. We went to our local cat and dog Vet and got some NeoPolyBack they use that for cats and dogs and let me tell you it works wonders for chickens too!! and it only takes just a little dot for there little eyes. I put it in her eyes 2 x per day morning and night but if the infection gets or is severe I would do it 3-4 x per day.
