The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

I am curious about something. I have 100% English Bantam Orps. The hens have beautiful bowling ball shapes with no upright tail feathers. Just a lovely full bustle butt. I see some hen pics here with upright tail feathers like my American BO had. Which is preferable in the English Orpington?

I breed for stiff tail feathers. Orpingtons shouldn't have a "bunny tail", as seen in some British Cochins and Wyandottes.

Though the British SOP makes no mention of the actual feather specifications...

So it is left to breeder preference and SOP interpretation. Thank You Jeremy. :)
I love your BBS. I had some just like them before the Banties. They were to large for my yard though.

From what I've concluded, yes. I think the Brits like a "softer" looking tail, whereas most American breeders select for a more prominent, stiff tailed bird. The SOP does leave some wiggle room for interpretation... I personally like a bit of both, fluff with full wide tail feathers. Getting tails right in my flock has definitely been something I've had to work on.

Thank you for the compliment, I love my Blues very much.

Hi Guys,

Just want to chime in, since I saw the same posting and emailed the guy.  He wasn't sure what they were but said they were breed by I think he said Old Orchard, so I emailed them and never got a response to clarify :-(

I have pictures of some of those things that have been sold... black with a lot of red leakage, are there pics on the ebay listing? and its genetically impossible to get birds with the colors and patterns claimed
