The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

I have a Suede grandson that is crowing sort-of. He is 20 wks old. He is so funny and so sweet too. He is a splash. He did have another roo close by that sort of encouraged him for a while though. I think they go at their own rate. Gloria Jean

Jeremy, you've got some beautiful birds. You're so lucky to have all those girls! How many total do you have? And, a bit off topic, but is that your Corgi in your avatar?

Paula, I have to say I was surprised at how many pullets I ended up with, too. Out of 11 total chicks I had 8 little girls. I've rehomed a black pullet with the black cockerel I had to a friend of mine, so now I'm at 7 pullets. I have no splash girls though, that's what I will be hatching for as soon as I start getting eggs!

That's my Toby in my avatar, yup! He's a Pembroke, he'll be a year old next month on the 14th.

You really lucked out for sure. I've got 3 girls, and 8 boys.

Oh well, that's just how it goes sometimes. I'm happy with my 3 girls.

Toby is just precious. I'm so glad to know you have a Pem. I just recently lost my Corgi-back in November. She was almost 5, and was run over in my yard. Her spine was fractured, but she held on for a couple of weeks. Looked like she was going to be ok. She was doing really well, but re-injured it and we lost her. She really was my heart, and it's still so painful. Hope no one minds, but here is my Emmie. Jeremy, I'd love to see more pics of Toby if you have. You can pm me. Don't want to take over the Orp thread.

Hey Jeremy - I can't believe how big they are getting and I still can't believe how many pullets you got !!! Alice looks really, really nice, as do some of the other pullets. I'm with Julie - some of them might be good to show !! Beautiful color on the blues. The black pullet looks very promising as well. Edmund looks great. The blue has lighter eyes (unless that is the camera) and not sure about that comb yet - will have to wait and see.

Paula - I'm so sorry to hear that you are still struggling with Emmie's death. She was a pretty girl !! Just know that she is waiting for you on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge and she is probably chasing chickens and rabbits over there too !!!

How sad. I had my 19 year ole cat Bugsy get run over in my driveway. I knew it was the end for that cat. And put him down myself.
I know many of you may know Walt the judge who prowls the Heritage threads. I believe he has Corgi's. You may want to PM him for anyone who is into this breed. I am sure Walt would help guide those into this legendary UK breed.
Again really sorry to hear when it is such a young dog.

Paula sorry about your Corgi. I have a granddog Pembroke. There is a breeder here who gave my son and fam a pretty girl puppie that is adorable. She had one flaw in pattern for showing. She has one blue eye and one brown. They are adorable and smart dogs.

Paula what have you done with all cockerels?

Thanks guys. Sometimes I think I'm just a big baby, but this little girl had completely stolen my heart. And those last two weeks were just heartwrenching. Anyway, I know she's in a better place, it's just hard knowing that it happened in my yard. The guy who ran over her was a neighbor of our years ago, and had been fishing in our pond in back of the property, and was on his way back up. Of course, the dogs got to running after his car. Instead of slowing down(like any normal person would do), he sped up-in our yard. The worst part was that he didn't even stop. He showed no remorse when we called to tell him what happened. It was just a bad situation, and what's hardest is that it didn't have to happen. You know, it could have been a kid chasing after a ball, and he'd never been able to stop. But, he just didn't see it that way. Needless to say, he's not allowed back here.

Joy, thanks again. I'm still having a hard time, but I know you feel that same about your dogs as I do mine. They're my kids, part of our family. Anywho, enough of my boo hooing.

Bill, thanks for the info. And sorry about your cat. Nineteen years old is amazing. I may just talk to Walt. I definitely want another Corgi. They're just awesome little dogs, and I can't imagine not owning another. It's funny, you never used to see Corgis, but now they're popping up everywhere. I'm so glad to see it.

Julie, enjoy your granddog. They're just cool dogs. On the cockerels, I still have them all. I posted a pic a few pages back of one of them with the girls. The rest are in the "bachelor pad". I need to get some good pics, so that y'all can give me opinions. They're coming up on 8 months. I know I need to keep them as long as possible before choosing the couple I'll keep. The boy that is with my girls now has a large comb and wattles, I find. The pics are on page 200, if you want to take a peek. I've got one other blue to choose from. I need to take a good look at him today. My blacks are small. I think they haven't hit their growth spurt yet or something. lol It's been so nasty out there, I'm pretty much throwing feed, and filling waterers, then getting back inside. I am sooo ready for Spring!

You better hope for Katy, my husband would kill me if I bought any birds for the prices newly imported birds go for.

But Renee' you are close, is your friend close to you too?

I think the Chocolates will do well here. Julie and Joy already have the Blacks and Blues perfected. The Lavs are in capable breeders hands & already here in the States.
The first time I seen a true David Pownall Black was this fall. His birds were featured in the POULTRYKEEPER.COM last January. And also seen his Blacks in capable UK breeder's hands by the name of POWER POULTRY. Power makes a point of not selling to the USA too. But, his Pownall Black cock names Cassius is spectacular! I recommend any fan of Black Orpington to check these links out to see how nice it is to have David's Blacks. Hope you all enjoy them like I do.
I can't post the links cause of BYC rules, but will forward to any in PM's
