The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Hideous little Lavender Silver-laced. Lol I’m positive the smaller one is a cockerel. The larger bird has thinner legs and has always been feathered better than the smaller one. In these pictures they both look flushed and like boys. In person the comb is much more pale.

This is pretty little Mauve pullet I got a few months ago. She's really filled out nicely and the color is growing on me. I think I'll leave her in the Blue pen to throw Blue and Chocolate chicks.

Blue Orpington trio with Mauve pullet. The Blue pullet is a sister to the Mauve. The Blue hen is Agatha, and the cockerel is really filling out. He's not as good looking or as dark as Suede, but I'm hoping breeding him to Agatha and Dahlia, Suede's sisters, that he'll throw some better looking babies.

More of the Lavender Silver-laced.

Blue Orpingtons again. I do really like the shape on the pullet.

Babies enjoying the cooler evening temperatures. There's some Silver-laced, White, Blue (Silver-laced), and Lavender Silver-laced in here, plus the Blue Slate turkey poults, Guinea keets, and the Seramas and Mars Bars. And the Chocolate Muscovy Ducklings.

They are both going to be boys...the more I look at them the less I'm convinced one is a pullet.

@Faraday40 On your Blue Silver-laced, are your birds' legs white or slate? I realized the other day the oldest pullet has white/grey legs versus the pure Blues that have Slate. I like the white legs, and it certainly makes it easier to pick her out.

I've hatched both but more white skinned. Now I want to check out all the chicks out there.

@ColtHandorf
Your blues and mauve look awesome. Your lav laced.....well they're just as you described. Poor babies. They're hitting that awkward stage pretty hard. They both look male to me, but who knows. I've been wrong a lot lately. LOL

Your menagerie includes turkeys, a goose, big orps and "useless" chickens, & guineas (and ducks?) I swear I see a duckling in the pic .... or is it a gosling?

@homeschoolin momma just got some ducks & I'm hearing all about them. If we had a little pond I might give them a try, but for now, ducks are not for me.

Quail are great for eggs but no real personality.
Turkeys are 'different' and a unique adventure for us this summer. But, they're not a long term project.
Chickens - I still love them after all these years!

I actually got some decent pullet pics today

Lav Orp 2 (dark gray comb) always poses for pics - with attitude & personality

Black Orp (never wants to take pics; always running off)
She'll probably end up being the prettiest hen - of whom I'll never be able to get a good photo.

What I find very odd is that these girls always stay inside the coop/run. All the other birds can't wait to be let out in the morning. These girls prefer to stay inside all day. I carried them out for photos today and they kept running back inside. Very strange behavior.

Yes, 3 pretty Welsh Harlequin ducks. These guys are actually pretty friendly too. Can pick them up and hold them. The girls are a little darker than I would prefer, but that can be worked on. Will try to get pictures tomorrow.
