The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

I had just asked about that in another thread and they all said pullets will feather faster than cockerals. betting on a girl

Yep, that is the case most of the time, but not always. This chick is twice as big as the others, the legs are really thick, and already the beginnings of a tail (boys usually get first) - I'm still saying boy.

Sandy - Jeremy - Kathy ---- I have your soap packaged up and addressed, but haven't made it to the PO yet. I will take it in the next day or so and I"ll let you know when I mail it.

An update on the express mailed Bama chicks. They all arrived early this morning yelling at the tops of their lungs. I cranked the heat up in the car and booked home. They're now in their new home. I've got one that's a little weak, but it has had sugar water and I'll make sure it drinks at least every half hour and has a bit of hard boiled egg yolk.

Do you have any hand-rearing formula? If I have a weak one, I always feed them some of that and the difference is amazing. I'm also a big fan of a drop or two of Poultry Drench.

Mary, you don't know how happy I am to see this picture. They look happy to see food and water.
BTW I love your Shirley Temple movie quote. My duck is a wonderful Duck.

Thanks Julie. I kept waking up all night waiting for the phone call. I'm very relieved they got here this morning needless to say. And, my 2 lonely little Orplets are in pig heaven with 7 new friends with which to cuddle. It will be interesting to see how they compare in growth in the coming few weeks.

Four paws- My babies arrived this morning also, but I have three weak babies.. Will hard boiled crumbled eggs help? I did make them drink, but those three won't eat.... I would appreciate any input. Thank you in advance...

Joy suggested Kaytee Exact Hand Feeding Formula for All Baby Birds. You can get it a Petco or Petsmart. My little one did respond to getting warm, fluids and the hard boiled egg yolk, but the Kaytee might be a better choice if you've got a Petco/Petsmart nearby. I'm heading out to pick some up in a few minutes.

Good luck!

I keep the hand feeding formula on hand because it works good on any size bird that might be under the weather and not wanting to eat. They will eat that stuff if you mix a little warm water with it.
