The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

HeyJude - do you know how long your chicks were in transit? Trying to monitor the PO since they are no longer going to guarantee overnight shipment.

thank you so much for the input. There is a Petsmart in Rivergate, about 40 miles from here. As soon as the hubby gets back, I think I'll go and get some to keep on hand. Again, thank you. I really do appreciate your help. It tough to watch the little ones that aren't doing so well. Poor little ones were in transit since Monday night...I will never ever have another bird mailed. If I can't go and get them, then I guess I don't need them... I may want them, though.....

I ended up with 6 out of 8. The last egg hasn't done anything yet and I"m not expecting it too. If you can believe this, out of 6 chicks, I got FOUR splash and 2 blues !!!

I plan on taking some pictures of them tomorrow, and will take some new pictures of the ones that hatched last week - they have already grown like crazy !!

Still, I'm pretty happy right now - I have 12 new 100% chicks -

Your pics are so cute! I've got one Splash Orpington baby, and it's about twice the size of all the other baby Marans the same age. And greedy, my goodness. He just shoves the others away from the food and gorges. He karate-kicked his way out of the egg, while giving it the what-for. I'm pretty sure he used language that shouldn't be spoken by nice, well-bred chickens.

I can't wait to see what kind of personality he develops as he grows. I'm trying to figure out how to keep an extra roo, if he is one. He cracks me up. He might become my new head roo if he keeps being totally awesome.

I haven't been commenting on the shipping issue, but I got 17 chicks from Jody Hinkle this morning. They were shipped 3/28 at 5:00-ish in the afternoon via Express. Arrived this morning at 6:30. No problems whatsoever.

I called my local store to make sure they had it. I'm not as far as you from PetsMart but I didn't want to spend the gas money for the trip and find out that location didn't carry it.

check the route your birds go. If I have birds shipped to my friend 5 minutes away in a different county the birds travel through one less sort facility and arrive a day sooner.

Joy suggested Kaytee Exact Hand Feeding Formula for All Baby Birds. You can get it a Petco or Petsmart. My little one did respond to getting warm, fluids and the hard boiled egg yolk, but the Kaytee might be a better choice if you've got a Petco/Petsmart nearby. I'm heading out to pick some up in a few minutes.

Good luck!

Thanks. That is a neat trick.

I hadn't thought of that but am familiar with that product from when I hand fed my severe macaw when she was a baby.

I did call and they don't have it. Ugh... I will call Nashville and go there if I have to. Still the same three chicks aren't picking up. I did put down some crumbled hard boiled egg for them, but still no go. I'm really afraid these little ones aren't going to make it. I'll keep trying though....

Muddyhorse- on a different note//I noticed you have a catahoula, is it a cur? I have a Mountain Cur and was curious if yours was as stubborn as Onya is?
