The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Julie - They are adorable !!! I love the picture of the first one !! Look at that big ole chest on that little guy. And the little sleepy chick - so, so sweet !! You are right - it is really hard to catch in a picture just how big they are. Mine have been crazy this morning - I'm not getting any work done because I'm sitting here laughing my butt off at them. Have a safe trip and call me when you can.

I have 5 due to hatch tomorrow.

Depending on what variety you are looking for. I don't sell eggs and neither does Julie. Greenfire Farms also has some really nice Orpington varieties, but I don't believe he sells eggs. There are some eggs on E-Bay starting at $100 per egg.

I heard to stick to BYC and that hatch rates from ebay are very poor. If this is not true...I'd love to hear positive feedback. However....$100 is high when you have such risks with shipped eggs. Still ...maybe there are some breeders of Mixed US/England in the midwest area?

I know that there are quite a few folks that have birds from me and from Julie. Some of them are starting to get eggs from their girls, but not sure if anybody has any for sale right now. Ask some of the folks on this thread - maybe somebody has some available or will have some soon.

An update on my new chicks. Everyone is happy, busy and I can't tell the wobbly one from the others this morning.

HeyJude, how are your babies doing today??

Mary - What a relief !! I'm so happy to hear this. We need some pictures.

I'd like to hear from Jude too. I hope her babies are all okay.

Frankly, if I'm investing in good quality birds, at least in my case I prefer getting chicks instead of eggs. I got over 2 dozen eggs from a well-respected breeder (different breed) and hatched out 6. Now, it was earlier in the year and my furnace was running like mad, sucking all the humidity out of the air. I was having to really work to keep up humidity.

In no way do I blame the seller. I blame the post office's handling and my decision to purchase during cold weather.
