I agree with you Mary. I much prefer to pay a more for chicks or started birds. With the service we get from our lovely USPS these days, it's a miracle any shipped eggs hatch.

I am so depressed. Why oh why can I not get a single fertile egg? I give up.

I put 2 of the big black girls in with my Lavender Orp project cockerel. At least I know he mates successfully with his other girl.

As for only buying chicks. I have had 20+ dead ducklings arrive at our post office. A friend had an adult bantam hen arrive dead. The USPS hires so many contractors, noone really cares about service anymore.

Yes, I trimmed and plucked. I just removed one of the roosters a week ago. Maybe the next batch will develop. I dunno, but I am just so depressed that this is taking so long. I just don't understand it. I have put every egg in the incubator for many weeks and not one single fertile egg.

Hmmmmmm. I'm not sure what else to tell you to do. Julie has a little trick that she uses to boost fertility - we'll have to get her to share it here. Something to do with Vitamin E.

I have to tell you, though, it took me a good 3 months last year when CLementine started laying before I got any fertile eggs. I was really frustrated too. How long ago did you pluck/trim? Maybe since you've now separated the roosters and plucked/trimmed you'll get some fertile eggs in the next batch.

At the risk of ruining Kathy's day even further I've got a pip in one of the three Joy eggs I've got in the hatcher.

I'm getting ready to set another group of them and from the other orp pen where I had zero fertility. Both pens now have different roosters in them so we'll see what I get now.
