Katy - I am really sorry to hear this. Nothing wrong at all with crying over a lost bird. I do it every time.
I hadn't said anything today because I wanted to tell Julie first, but when the hubby went down this morning to feed and water, Petra was dead. No sign of trauma. No blood. I've cried off and on all day. So don't feel silly or stupid for crying. I think when we DON"T cry is when we have a real problem.
Thank you all.....I'm sorry for your girl Joy. Mine didn't have any signs of trauma either.....just deader than a door nail laying there. I was going to try and get some new pictures of him because he was really maturing nicely......he had grown into his long neck and was very wide in his body. I loved his dark color. He'd only been in the pen with the pullets for 2 weeks tomorrow. I've been saving eggs this week to set a few. I know I can't know for sure if they're his if anything hatches, but the roo I had in there before was a much lighter blue. I went back out and put the black roo in with the blue pullets and put the black pullets in with the splash boy.
But - life goes on, so I'm going to post a few chick pictures to lighten the mood, I hope. I hope nobody minds.
This chick is a gorgeous powder blue. I just can't get the color to show up well. I guess when I can take them outside, maybe I can get a more accurate picture.
I really love the color of this splash. I have 3 that are this silvery color - very little of the yellowish color.
Ya'll remember that big boy that I bet was a rooster? Here he is with one of his hatch mates. He is about 12 hours older than this chick. He is going to be a monster !! Look at the size of those feet !!
