The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Hi, I just wanted to post a quick pic I took. As I was doing the feed and water tonight I noticed the lacing on this one. I have 3 that have awesome lacing, not sure if you can see it but I sure wish my blue ameraucana had this lacing

I think the flash kind of took away from it and I will get pics in a few days during the day
I think pullet? eta-only reason I even say pullet is that quite a few of them have red combs...of course not knowing this breed I could be wrong...

Jeremy, they are looking so great. Neville has got the best color and Alice just LOVES the camera, doesn't she?

Julie, that bathroom is amazing! You've almost inspired me to pull the vinyl '70's wallpaper out of my kitchen... but then I read the rest of your list of renovations and I got tired...

I have finished hatching for the season, too. Three weeks ago I took all the boys and put them in one pen in plain sight of the girls and waited for the mayhem. So far it's been really calm. Is it too much to hope that the calm will last? They are eight and a half months old.

There are some Gold Laced Orpingtons that have been developed from American Orpingtons. The developer is corancher and is a BYC member. Her photos show birds as nice as any imports.

although her birds are nice they are still in the project phase, they don't have the import body size/shape and I can tell that a lot of the birds are incomplete laced. To bring them up to par I think a few more generations are in order. This isn't a personal thing, just if it were my project that is how I would view it. I have a very critical eye (years of show dogs and grooming). It depends on what the person is looking for....If they are to just run around the yard for personal enjoyment then fine, but if it's for breeding/selling then they need to realize how much more work needs to go into bringing them up to look like imports....just my 2 cents...

I hope I have reproduced the lacing on this girl this year. I have some nice ones growing out and hope to take some pics this week

Tennesee don't let me wear you out with all the projects we have had. Just one a year you can do.

BTW HT your jellies did look awesome. I Need to make some muscadine jelly. I am so thankful to be at this place where i can even get on line. I have been so wore out at nite I haven't felt like typing or thinking. I am enjoying all your pictures. I have some nice black cockerels growing out. Hope they turn out as good as some of the ones you all have gotten from me. Look forward to seeing all your chicks grown up. Hope you have show winners if you show.

That's one of my favorite things about my boy, he's super "splash-y".

I really, really hope he passes it on to some of his daughters, as I do want to add some Splash hens to my flock.

BTW, how are your Ameraucanas? How many babies did you end up with?

Julie - The bathroom looks GORGEOUS !!! You'll have to let us know how the "Maiden Run" of the infamous bathtub goes !!

Jeremy - The pictures of Alice and Neville are wonderful ! Neville looks like he is really getting some nice size on him. And Alice, well,

Krista - Nice picture of the chick - how old?

Gavin - Hey - nice to see you. I did get some GL chicks from Paul in 04/2011. They are six weeks old now. I've not had anything but BBS Orps for so long, it is a shock to look at these guys and see all the color. I posted some pictures of them a few days ago.

Trees !! We have planted a gazillion trees since we bought this place and we are continually buying more. We have about 15 trees that need to be planted right now, and hubby brought home a couple of yellow/orange butterfly bushes the other day that we have to find a place for. We have a field that is about 2+ acres that we have planted all kinds of trees. Weeping mulberries, double-weeping cherries, Ranier Cherries, several other varieties of cherry trees, several varieties of plums, Asian pears, Jujube, several varieties of peach and apple, flying dragon claws, contorted filberts, a couple of figs, and I can' even think what else. We also have muscadine grapes and several other varieties of grapes, plus blackberries, black raspberries, and red raspberries. Also goji berries and elderberries. We have so many blackberries and raspberries that we can never pick them all, so if anybody lives close and wants to come pick - come on over !!!
