The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Marc - when are you going to be getting your Gold Laced?

For the first time since January, my house is chicken-free and no incubators running. My last eggs hatched out this past Monday and incubators are washed, disinfected and put away. My Gold Laced Orpington babies left the house brooder yesterday afternoon and went down to the "Big Coop." They are a little over 7 weeks old now. I ran down first thing this morning to check on them and they were all out running around and pecking and scratching in the grass in their run. I'm going to try to get some good pictures of them this afternoon to post later.

Hello! Thank you for the offer! But I think that I'm looking for Blue/Black or BBS.

Hi Jeremy,

Sometimes patience is a great virtue LOL.
I'm still busy hatching orps, have a lot of lavendels growing up and this week the LF chocolate project eggs go to the incubator. Wonder what the result will be.
Have a nice day,

Marc

Hi, all. I'm a newbie, in the process of trying to choose which breed to raise. I've just settled on orpingtons, since my animals will be pets with the benefit of providing the occasional egg. Everything I've read here and elsewhere tells me that these beautiful birds are just what I'm looking for. I'm not going to be able to hatch or raise a brood, so I'd like to locate some hens in my area (Springfield, west-central Ohio). Could anyone direct me to a thread here at BYC, or point me in a direction where I might be able to find out how to do this? Apologies if I've posted in the wrong place. Thanks in advance!

About what age can you sex English Orps? My chicks are around 8 weeks now, and I'm having a heck of a time sexing them! I can only keep 1 pullet from these 3, so I need to pick accurately! Any help is appreciated! I have pictures of 2 of them below.
