The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Even better than Wheaten Orpingtons... think of how beautiful Blue Wheaten Orps would be!

I think if that variety existed, I would love them even more than the Diamond Jubilees. Maybe...

I found the solution for my broody!

Apparently all I had to do was decide that I wanted to let her hatch. Put Thor back in the pen with the girls, take the Wyandottes out, wait two days, put fertile eggs under her, and VOILA! She hopped off and hasn't returned.

I am getting pretty comfortable with being outsmarted by a chicken. Should I be worried?

Does anyone cull for slow feathering? I have that cockeral I posted a pic of a while back....he has a little bit of fuzz all over his body and only has wing feathers...he looks bald

I will get a pic later...

I have a 5 wk. old cockerel...that is the same. Since mine is young...I just figured it would be ok. How old is yours? (compared with the others in this hatch....one is like you said...pretty bald...)

mine is about the same age. I just don't want to perpetuate a trait that definitely won't be desireable in our northern climate....this poor thing would freeze if it was with one of my momma hens...

I don't think you want to cull for that. Charlie my English bird was a very slow feather chick and he came out of Show stock . What difference does it make how they feather in if when they get there feathers they are fantastic birds? He was over 8 weeks old when he got completely feathered

ok, will keep for now

I am going to band him to keep track after he feathers...
