I copied a discussion on breeding blues that I thought was interesting. I don't know if it will work but I am going to try and paste it here
Splash Orp Bantam cockerel x Black pullets
If in doubt, better call in the experts !
Am I right in thinking the above cross would result inblue offspring? It's just that I have a little splash cockerel surplus to requirements, and I'm hoping his "blue" potential -if advertised- might make him more attractive for re-homing. But thanks for correcting me if I'm wrong.

Yes you could say that, but ...what the heck yes.
What is it, mgmog ? I sense a certain reservation, and do not wish to mislead potential re-homers! Your Orps are fab, by the way
Better orpy breeders than me will hopefully reply too.
With orpy banties type is everything, you see the blue has to be the right blue ( dark neck & powder blue body ),Unlike lf orps if you cross a splash with a blue, you sometimes get a better blue than if you cross with a black. It depends on the blue that made up the splash. Bantie orps throw lots of variations of blue so some people run a blue with all three blue/black/splash. So if you can say the splash is a good line, it will help.

MgMog is right - in general, Splash X black = 100% blue babies - what MgMog i suspect is referring to is that blues bred with a splash X Black mating tend to be darker (due to the extra inherited melanisers) than those bred by blue X blue of splash X blue crosses. and you also have the question of how the splash was bred - was it by a Blue X Blue Cross, or a Splash X Blue Cross etc etc - the closer down the family tree the last outcross to black was the darker the bird - some breeds can breed for dozens of generations without outcrossing to black, and consequently have lighter blues.
Not being an orpy type im afraid i cant tell you which is preferable, but if MgMog's comment is right, then very simplistically you would usually indeed be better off with black bred blues than blue bred blues.
Make any sense?
1st picture is a pullet from a splash x black
2nd is a hen from the same splash x blue ( next to a lf blue ) - excuse the quality.
