The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Pics
Beautiful, beautiful birds in this thread!

I am loving the English Orps. I can't decide whether I like the really, really Cochin-type UK Orps or the ones that are more intermediate between that and the American Orps. They are all so gorgeous. It is almost like a different breed altogether (the really Cochin like ones). I love my American Orps so much I can't imagine ever getting out of those, but really would like to start a separate line of the English Orps as well, probably bred totally separate from the American ones.

Anyway, amazing birds everyone! Are their personalities as great as the US Orps?

It is so amazing the difference a month makes in growth. I have a pic of this young pullet from over a month ago and I will take one later today if I get a chance so you can see the difference.

All of mine have hit a growth spurt and looks like they are growing by the day. I have seen and increase again in food consumption. I am going thru 200 lb of chick starter a week. I have got to cull again.

I hatched way later into the season that I had planned. Lord help me from doing that this next year. by the time I get these up to laying size I will be hatching again. I have decided I like to have a break from chicks.

Hey Joy as soon as you can how about a updated photo on Bluebell.
I would like to see growth and also the O's

this is a four month old from last year. She turned out to be one of the largest hens I have.

This was about four months later.
When she gets through a moult and setting on a nest I will get a pic. She should be something pretty after her first moult.

Sorry I've been MIA. THings have been really hectic here and haven't had much computer time.

I want to get some progression pictures posted on Winston and Clementine...will try to get to that this week.

Julie - I'll try to get some pictures of The O's, Bluebell, Hagrid, Rumples and all the other babies. It has been really storming so far today, and has finally quit. If it is not raining when I get done working, I'll go down and get some photos and post.

That sure is correct about the difference a month makes. I've seen major differences in a week !!! I have some pictures of CLementine when she was young...I took some one day and then a week later took more, and the difference is staggering. I'll try to post those this evening too.

Beth - I have 4 of your eggs coming out of the bator and into the hatcher on Saturday !! I candled last night and they are looking good. These will be Minerva and Winston's chicks, so they should be just beautiful. Bluebell is of Minerva and Winston and she is going to be a beauty, I think. I'll try to get some photos of Bluebell this evening so you can see what she looks like now.

Jeremy - I don't think you'll have a problem getting a blue roo. Now a Splash might be a little harder. Winston and these girls don't seem to be throwing many splashes.

I found this picture last night of Winston and Clementine when they were 4 days old. I thought it was cute. Winston is in the front. Look at the chests on these 2 chicks??? Massive already at such a young age.
