Has anyone talked with Jeremy, Joy or Julie to know for sure how bad this really is with Jeremy's birds. Seems strange that he didn't post something letting anyone know about this. I saw that he made a post about 14 or 15 hours ago on another forum and didn't mention it. Maybe we are reading it to be worse then it really is. I'm hoping anyway. This is a real shame how many times this happens with some of us.

I spoke to Jeremy earlier today. I don't believe he had planned on posting about this until he had been able to actually assess the loss - plus, sometimes it is just too hard to talk about and you don't want to post publicly. I don't want to speak for Jeremy, but from what I understand, it wasn't nearly as bad as what he first feared, he only lost a few juveniles. Neville, Alice, Thelma, Elizabeth, etc. are all okay. I'm sure he'll be on later to let everyone know the status.

I hope I didn't step on Jeremy's toes by saying something. I just wanted him to know I was thinking about him. I hate losing birds and feel so bad to hear when others do as well.

Thank you everyone for your concern, I'm sorry that I haven't gotten on the forum before now to check in, it's be a very upsetting and frustrating past few days.

My adult birds are all okay. Neville, my Thelma, Alice, Elizabeth and my other girls were not harmed, they are housed in a coop that rivals Fort Knox in security, but I did lose some juvenile birds. My juvies are housed in tractors in a more free range environment and whatever got at the birds, we think it was coyotes or stray dogs, took quite a few of them.

I honestly don't know what else to say other than thank you all again for your kind words and your support.

To Tonea and anyone else that I had planned on sharing birds with, when my girls start laying if you're still interested I can hopefully ship you some eggs. I'm sorry that I won't be able to get you the young birds that you had hoped for.

This is what Hinkjc did when they were working on making jubilee orpingtons for several years. They used a speckled sussex roo over black orps. The mottled birds they eventually got were very pretty. You should contact them about it.
Are you doing ameraucanas anymore?

yes and no on the ameraucana. I have my black hens and a splash rooster and I only have a trio of wheaten/bw.
I have so many fun things running around and the ameraucana LOVE to free range that I haven't hatched any because I know everything is mixed. I may pen them this summer if dh allows me to but I think I only am going to be able to do one hatch this spring. My "specials" are all penned separately though.

Thanks Jeremy, she is really round. As they say, she looks like a basketball already and the cockerel is also very nice. They are the most comical birds that I have ever owned. They don't look as big on the pictures as they really are. I guess you that have them know what I mean. They are really big.

Hi Jean, I sent birds to Minh To several months prior to date for shipping to U.S. all to be quarantined and tested on site along with other birds to be shipped already in his possession,


Dave K, the bird you liked is a red cuckoo,


Aveca, the hen pictured has several faults, none that will exclude her from the breeding pen, her good points far outway her bad points and the wind was behind her on the day that picture was taken and does give the impression of a square chest, as far as show birds go in this country, if they were bred as they should be to the standard most that are shown and do all the winning at shows would not do so, they are way too feathery and show no leg at all, English birds over the last 10 years or so have been greatly influenced by birds from the continent, these birds of cochin type are the fashion of today and judges (in my opinion for what its worth) is that they are wrong, birds should be bred shown and judged strictly to the standard, not to pander to fashion, I love the look of these very feathery birds but they are totally impractical unless you live in a very dry environment,
Things will soon go the way of the sussex over here where the speckled adheres strictly to the standard and the lights which could almost pass as orpingtons look like another breed entirely,
Judges are the biggest influence on type in any breed and if they don't do their job right we all lose out in the end, i don't personally show my birds so am not influenced by fashion and can continue to amble along in my own way breeding as close as i can to the given standard and concentrate on getting right the colour and markings on the type of bird i like the look of,
