The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

RedReiner, Your flock is outstanding. You have done well with your breeding. I am giving you a A plus. I like your partridge looking girl. great type

Jeremy, sorry about the predator. I have been there and cryed about it. It just didn't bring back my babies.

Thank You Julie, I do appreciate that from you. both of those girls were from my very first hatch (well my very first broody hen hatched em) They came from eggs by the splash rooster that made his way up here from you. I am still not sure how partridge popped out but I am happy with her. that blue girl is just huge, she doesnt have a name though, maybe I can call her fathead lol I do like the bigger heads on them too, fits their body type.

4Hmom yours are looking good too, some really nice blue girls :) competition next month!!

Zgoat lady! your splash was hatched here at my place lol, tell me if you get anything marked like my party chicken....thats her name, party :)

I don't post here alot, but I do lurk all the time! Finally got some half way decent shots of our Orps, so thought I'd share my little flock.

This is my original 4 that I got as chicks from a local breeder who got their stock from Julie/Bamachicken when Charlie was her ruling Roo.
That's Baxter, Penelope, Piper and Parvati.

This is our whole flock now. Last summer we penned Baxter & Penelope together to hatch more blues, and we kept a blue trio to add to our original four.

This is Sterling, our blue cockerel, and one of his hatch mates.

Another blue pullet.

Another shot of Baxter from last summer. My DD won Best in Show in the 4-H County fair with him.

Hoping to take most of these to our first local open class show next month. Hoping to see several of you there as well!!!!

What kind of goats are those?

my Partridge mistake has finally molted and grown back her feathers. thought I would share. she isnt a true partridge I am told but no matter, she is by a splash english roo and her mother was a big buff girl. just interesting she came out this well marked, yeah she is smutty on the back of her head. I dont have anything to breed her to to try and make more though...not that I have any idea what one would breed her to to make more...

BEAUTIFUL!

OH gosh Im going to have fun...I will

Red Reiner, you are very fortunate to have hatched a hen with the potential to make a strain of partridge, the most likely bird the gene has come from is her father, normally first generation crosses from male partridge produce all solid coloured offspring with gold leakage around the neckline, a mating i did with splash male over partridge hen produced the males pictured, all hens solid blue no leakage, if the blues you have are of english origin and were from Matt Hansons strain which were some of the best around over recent years ( i'm pretty certain some of his strain were exported to the U.S. ) this would explain where the gene has come from as he borrowed a partridge cockerel a few years ago to work on a blue partridge project, a test mating with that hen back to her father might produce more for you to work with to improve the markings, judging by her leg colour she is genetically blue so half her offspring with her father will be splash

WA4-Hpoultrymom, I really like Sterling's color. I hope to hatch a male with similar coloring.

Red Reiner, I think you should totally follow Bob's advice and breed her back to her father. It would be awesome if you could start producing a Blue Partridge line!!! Just something else to pine over...

well her father is no longer with us, he came from Julie in alabama. thats really interesting info, maybe I need to hit Julie up for a splash and see what I get? I am in Washington State and even though we are getting a nice following of english people here the english stock is few and and far between. You are the first person to explain anything about the partridge pattern and how to possibly get another. Zgoatlady has a splash son of an english boy I had from Julie. he has a tiny bit of red leakage on his wings. I could possibly borrow him or see if she would pen them together for me for a week or so then hatch eggs. currently I do not have a rooster. her tail is a bluish grey pattern over the buff or gold or whatever color the base is called. its not black. I never thought to look at her legs and guess actual base color. I am just used to BBS as thats all I have ever had. she did have a hatch mate that was also marked like partridge but it was inconsistent and smutty so I did not keep her. hmm... see now I am thinking I should see if I can get more like her.
