I would recommend you trying to cross her with a buff male to see if you can pull that gene.

but would it not be a total crapshoot with a buff you had no history on? american buff is what I would have to use as there are no english ones in my neighborhood.

Its just the same as crossing to the splash, except the buff is more likely to be the one that was hiding the gene.

k, I can try both if I came across a decent buff roo, not any where I live though. chances are slim to none there is an english buff rooster in my state lol.

I still cant the hang of this new BYC yet but the pic. in my last post are 6 chicks I hatched on Thurs.

Roger those are some very cute chicks. Love the little splash in the front. I need to take some pics of mine but just havent been up to it lately. I have several black chicks out of blue to blue and just wondering how they will turn out. I have some blue chicks almost four weeks old and was hoping I wouldn't have many boys but looks like about 3 in that group so far. I know I have at least two in my nine day old chicks.

I think Marc will be selling juvie Buffs this year, he probably will have extra cockerels!

Very cute babies Roger, congratulations on your hatch! My girls are giving me eggs every few days or so. I'll have Neville home soon and hopefully they'll really start laying then.

I have a few Sumatra chicks in the brooder and my project Orp eggs are in lockdown now, 3 made it. I'm crossing my fingers that all 3 hatch!

I have a question for all of the Orp owners out there. When you candle the eggs do they appear almost lacy - as if you can see all the holes or pores? I got a complaint from a customer who received eggs a couple of weeks ago that they were "too porous". When I asked what they meant, they said you could see all the holes in the egg. But I have 5 dozen hatching/pipping in my bator right this moment and another few dozen that went in a week ago and more sitting on the counter to go in so I candled them and I think what they are referring to is how they do appear almost lacy and fragile and the light just beams through the pores. Anyway, just wondering if anyone else's eggs are the same way. Most of my other breeds of eggs are dark - either dark brown, speckled, or olive and are too hard to see through so I rarely candle. The Orp eggs are the only ones that the light shows up so well that you can practically see through the pores.
