i got this young cockerel from marc he is starting to fill out nice but is still growing i hope he will make as good of a bird as i have seen at marcs

walt, i think it is feather width not so much loose, if i remember a conversation we had a while back..they are slightly looser but if you ever have EO and us side by side, note thefeather width ..i had somone send me some pics of example, but its in laptop, and im on tablet at the moment. the feathers are even, big, wide, us version had much less so. i see it on the babies, you first think, what a mess because they have such wide feather on baby, but they sure start to grow into them.

Boy that is a wide one isn't he?
I let a few out for their first time. The dog was very curious.

I recently got the chance to purchase 4 Chocolate Bantam Orpingtons...I thnk I got at least 1 pair but it may be 1 boy and 3 girls or 2 pair...they are still to young but one has a much bigger comb than anyone else and is feathering much slower. I now have the chance to purchase a pair of juvenile Jubilee Bantam Orpingtons from a breeder who has some from the Rob Boyd line. I was looking to buy the Large Fowl and did some looking around for those but my husband is thinking i might have enough birds for a while...so seeing Bantams are much smaller I was hoping to sneak these guys in...What would be a fair price for a pair of thesse bantams seeing that LF juvenile pairs are soooooo expensive? Also any thoughts anyone has or advice would be great. These are my first Orpingtons ever, Thanks.

Thank you. When I judge I only have a couple minutes to make a decision about a bird so I look at the important features first. The body being the most important, the comb one of the least important unless it has a rose comb. If you have a SOP read the first 39 pages and you will see birds like I do.

One thing you don't want to breed in that pinched tailed look that so many of what is called Orps look like.

This boy here has a great tail. He is wide front to back and just a great specimen. I wish he was a little more imported Enlish typey but he is still a good choice for

breeding a great tail.
Handsome boy Julie!

Wide feathers don't make a chicken look fluffy or loose feathered. Rosecomb bantams have very wide feathering as do oegb's and they are pretty tight feathered birds.
