The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

They are beautiful. My husband would like the jubilee.

Thank you... I want some GOLD LACED!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh heck why stop there...I want some of every color hahaha

Renie, LOVE those chesty buffs! Gorgeous! and my 5 wk babies are your grandchicks!

My 5 month old blacks are from Gaetano's Family Farm in Connecticut ~ I'd like to cross the two lines to diversify the genetics a bit. My 5 month old Cockeral has some good size on him, eye color is a bit lighter than I'd like and I just don't know what to think about the comb. I don't know how many points the SOP calls for on the comb for these guys. I Ordered the APA SOP 10 days ago and am anxiously awaiting its arrival.

You are doing just fine :) I believe it is 5 points.. but it's not a DQ if you have more.. as long as you don't have a double point..

Thank you Bama.... good to see you :) Have you heard from Joy??? I hope they are doing fine.. been meaning to call them but I declare.... just never seems to be enough hrs in the day.

5 is considered perfect if they are evenly spaced nice points and they like orp comb to start short in front and round toward the back to be ideal..4 to 6 are perfectly acceptable..a super bird with more or less can be used in breeding programs . you will sometimes see an example at a show with 4 or 6 points make it through to bigger title just because the overall points for toes, color, type, breast ect ect,,, added up and the bird has overall appeal to the judge and is the best example of the entire group.

Thank you so much for answering my question... :) I have some young SUPER Blue Roos that have this darkness on the comb... They are very very nice and didn't want to cull them if there was a chance this could correct. It would be a crying shame.
renie, thats called a mullberry comb, it goes away as they age completly, it is seen a lot in australorps , they inherited it from orp past..i had a hen that ran around with very dark comb for a long time. you would never know it now..nothing to worry about , next year it will be just red..that type seldom gets the white ear lobes for some reason.and thats good. i had a pic of her befor and after..she almost looked like one of those cerami if i spelled that right..the birds with the black comb..in fact i have a cockeral right now that has it..i will try to get a pic of him...he is out of that hen. it is purple , not a thing wrong with him and it will be red next year,
