If gold is the background color and that's what it looks to me, it should be: blue laced gold. (gold background with blue lacing)
To be gold laced blue, the back ground would need to be blue.......... (it would have to have a blue background with gold lacing).

Quote: Did you just start using this? I lost the whole batch of chicks I got from you last summer to cocci. Not a one survived the first week.![]()
With the crazy weather we have here, cocci is always an issue in the summer. That's why I try to do all of my hatching in early spring. It always seems to strike at the most inconvenient time.
I have not used the cocci vaccination as of yet. I have cocci heavy at my place. We have lots of wild birds - song birds, quail, pheasants that are constantly coming through, not to mention starlings (very dirty birds), and crows. I put deep sand in my main runs and I watch my birds like a "hawk". What age were your chicks? Were you feeding medicated food? The medicated food only has enough of the medicine as a prevention. when I notice a chick acting like it may have cocci - I have seen enough to realize when. I get a dose of Corid in their water. Many swear by Sulmet also - I have never used it. I am changing up my feeding program and I am taking everyone off of chick start/grow sooner - I did not realize that babies should be taken off. So I am feeding them a grower and then I am using Corid in their water 1 week, off 1 week, on 1 week, off 1 week. This allows their body to "acclimate" to the cocci. If you have concerns you can take a stool sample to the vet and they can check it ...birds usually always have some...but it is the young birds to have to get thier bodies use to the Cocci so they can fight it if the amount become too high. you may already know all this and I apologize if I am lecturing or repeating. I am so sorry for the loss of your chicks - I have been there. Good luck.

Quote: I am sorry I am so late to read updates. Rebel Yell - I have 3 batchest of babies and all 3 are from different parentage and all 3 seem to have darker combs. thank you for the good information.
But it is also funny. The batch I have from you I have 5 birds and there is 1 cockerel and 4 pullets. My chicks from Renie - 4 birds = 1 cockerel 3 pullets. And the eggs that I hatched from my 1 trio of my own birds - 4 birds= 1 cockerel and 3 pullets. Isn't that crazy. The last batch is pretty young so I am not 100% sure, but that is what it is looking like. I am having a friend come over who is going to help me pick chicks for the start of my breeding program. They are all so pretty I am having a hard time "seeing" what I need to.
Love the dirty look. LOL. My birds are panting from the heat too and lifting their wings. On the really hot days I have set up a sprinkler near them (not on them) helps to kind of "mist" and cools the air a bit. Also, I have stuck a hose in runs (they are sand) and let the water run and the birds will actually go stand in the water. Cools the off too. I did not think they would do that, but I watched my big roo walk right over and get into the water. You could tell he felt better right away. Poor buddy - it has been so hot.
