The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

im an old softie for the sop birds..they are so important just for biodiversity and some good looks, i actually sometimes lean more toward the looks of a very good us sop australorp over even the australian champion..if you ever see a really good us standard aussie..there is nothing like them..but i see room for improvement too..would like to see more of australian versions eye on ours..like vickie said, pick an english orp up in your hand..for me it was game over..fell in love right then and there..magnificent birds.no 2 ways about it..
so sorry jim i love the SOP typ birds but in that side by side i would say 100% OF THE TIME TAKE THE EOs they may not fit the SOP but somtimes fitting in the peramiters set by the APA SOP dose not mean they are the prittest/best looking

US orpingtons fit standered better but UK orpingtons look better

just my opinyon

On a slightly different topic , but pertaining to Orps and particularly Eng Os.....Does anyone use a creep feeder set up for chicks and young birds? I have a 6 x 6 area that is fenced off from the biggies with a sliding door, but open to whatever size youngster whom I feel needs feed. Boy, do the youngsters take advantage of it for a few weeks. A chick with a mom has no problem, but those newly introduced babies can go really hungry for a few weeks when they are picked on by older birds. My babies run in, and stuff at least 3 times a day without being harrassed. The payoff in growth is enormous. Anybody else use a creep???

Havent we been around this mountain before. I thought this thread was about Imported English Orpingtons and how much we enjoy them and not a comparison of the American standard to English Standard. It just gets so redundant. I think for this discussion a thread should be started so everyone interested in discussing it can give all the opinions they want on how much they love the Apa standard birds above the Imported type and let this continue to be the thread it was intended. Just my humble opinion

This thread is to post pictures and discuss the beautiful English Orps. Please, no discussion on APA standards, auctions, etc. We just want to see pictures and talk about this beautiful eye candy.

Winston and Clementine are our English Blue Orpingtons that we imported last year. I took some photos today of their oldest chicks, The O's (Olympia and Octavia), Hagrid, Rumples, and Bluebell, and thought I would share.

Bluebell - she is such a pretty little girl

Thank you RP. I pick up the soft feathers from these for a friend of mine who makes the most beautiful pens to wear with stones in the center. Everytime I wear my Orpington feather pen I get compliments. I need to take some pictures of those things.

I had to put my two young black cockerels up in off the ground pen tonite. One of them has been attacked by something. His head is skinned bad. I don't know if a hawk tried to get him or what. I am going to have to put some ointment on it in the morning. He is a heavy boy. They have run loose in the yard since they were day olds. They follow us around like puppy dogs. I don't need two more boys but you sort of get attached to some.

I hope when I start hatching in the fall I will trend towards more pullets.

Bama,
Beautiful UK Orpingtons but as always they are so excellent. I would love to have that quality some day. Keep the pictures coming. Harry
Thank you Harry, That old black hen came from Sand Hill six years ago. The only one I have left from them. We named her Grandma. She gets to stay in whatever pen she wants to. She has a distinct look to her. Always had a great comb. I don't think she lays very often but will get broody and fuss at you.
