X2HAPPY NEW YEARS TO EVERYONE !
Thank yourenie. 17 time world champion Australorp breeder ray Connor wrote a book on breeding Aussies who have exactly the same color standard as black orpington.in his book, he said you start to see purpeling in the feathers when You have too much green in the breeding shed..he said choose rooster with …excellent green sheen..cross him over hens that are a charcoal or Matt black with less green to correct..if the hens have rich green put her with Matt black cockeral..
as Don Said ,There are a lot of chocolate people are breeding back and forth , A line of pure blacks should be kept separate but possibly too many crossed At &his point ..I think it could be worked out but expect to see this crop up.for a long time In bantam mostly..
I know a lot of people do not share my opinion on this but William cook never advocated for a long back on his birds..not too short..but the us orps of today.were changed because after the war they were in short supply so rock and other breeds were added just to keep them going..changed their appearance and our standard to suit..
Think Labrador retrievers here...Chocolates are a dilute of black. Once you get that in a line, it WILL come back to haunt you. Why are very few people breeding PURE blacks ? They are gorgeous, and have great type. Has all the novelty for new UNRECOGNIZED colors made people forget the foundations of color breeding ? Without a pure line of blacks to go to, heaven knows what you'll end up with when making these new designer colors. Can we get the recognized colors right before venturing there, or is the $ rearing it's ugly head at the expense of the breed ?no , but They would probably be a lot easier to work with than chocolates..those Can Haunt you Not Easy to get rid of..you should keep a strong line of blacks going..make it a goal..people get going on projects and forget to keep a good line of Pure blacks going..every once in a while you will see something strange pop out in the blacks like mottled that you never knew was in there..threw back down the line..it's just something that is going to happen.. but set aside good line of blacks.
Thank you
But the question remains.... Are the black derived down from breeding Blues considered pure Black???
