The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

They're drying. Sweet babies. The first one to hatch kept trying to help the others. At one point, it sat on top of one that was hatching. Poor little guy had to work twice as hard.

On the pictures above everything except the black hen was hatch from Crele/Legbar orpington imported eggs - even the lavender/tan boy (except the cuckoo orps of course - they are pure cuckoo orpingtons)

I think they are on the right track but a variety of color, as can happen with this variation. I am hoping to get them a little more consistent. I have pictures of the sire but I never did get pictures or any information on the hens he was bred to. This is a picture of the front roo in the picture of three, almost resembles a very dark partridge (black copper marans color).

This is November

Very interesting color - no barring

This is today

Going to end up Partridge ? Interesting, Nellie.

Those Creels are something !

My favorites!

Veteran hatchers....I have an egg that hasn't pipped. Today is day 22. How long should I continue to hope? Do y'all think I made an error with humidity...? Poor baby, I hope I didn't kill it.

I always keep my eggs in the hatcher for at least 2-3 days extra if there is an egg that hasn't hatched yet and was supposed to.
I have chicks hatch on day 22 all the time. This is usually from the temperature being a little low and the chicks grew a little slower. (Or so I have been told.)
This happened all the time with my LG incubator but my sportsman holds the temperature exact

Only one?
Relax..if everyone else is all good you did great and did not make a mistake!!!!
Some are slow. I have had them hatch out 3 days later.

If you simply can't stand it make sure you have a good light to check for internal pip and movement.

Hens get off the nest all the time between hatchling's and pips. However, you have valuable eggs and each one is golden. If you open it .....do you risk anything? Like the other eggs.

Ask yourself a few questions
If you took out the egg and checked it and it was viable have you risked anything? Could or would you do anything?
If it was not viable, what have you changed?

I am an OT, however i have never ever hatched out valuable eggs in an incubator, just the dual purpose eggs. I am not as picky as everyone else about opening and handling eggs. I just sanitize my hands without fail. My hens get off the nest all the time, so I do not freak out about opening the bator, I just make sure it is quick so the temp does not drop very far. The internal temp of the egg takes time to drop even if the thermometer says it is cooler in the box. You are now in an important phase..you have to watch humidity, so you might consider adding a hot damp paper towel during the exam, and removing it after you are done. It will not change anything much and only temporary.
