The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Aww you poor thang..... Don't despair I tell you... He is there for a reason.. soo don't toss him out.

I have 13 eggs in the bator now... hoping for the best... other wise I will have to trim skirts for the first time.... and I don't wanna.
When I set up my breeding pens, I worm and trim feathers. When I set eggs I want to get them hatched and not wait around to to get many chicks. Every egg that you throw out could have been good if they was trimed. Thats my thinking.

Trimmed one of my choc. bantam pullets 4-5 days ago, & nothing yet, it takes about a week for it to show up, right ?
I don't know just how long it takes to be good. When I set pens up, worm, and trim I don't save eggs for a week. I go about a week and set. I have 2 pens of big buffs this year, I'm using ckls in both and I have good eggs in one pen and nothing in the other. I'll give him another week and see what happens and if nothing I'll put in another ckl. In my choc bantams in one pen I have a ckl with 7 pullets and ever eggs is fertile. Guess I need to get that boy a pack of cigs. He's doing good.

What exactly are you all trimming?

Heavy feathering on orp butts..some pluck above hens vent and below roosters..some pluck area about size of fist around whole thing..some Trim feathers on birds for breeding that no plans to show that bird...)

Could be fertile within 24 hours.

I'm sorry I should have elaborated a little bit. It takes 23 hours to make an egg (from my research). The next egg would be fertile if the cards are in your favor (I have retyped this 3 times trying to figure out how to say it
