Thank you Nellie. That girl resides at Imogenes. I do have some really good looking ones hatched from that black Cock in the pic and a splash girl of mine I brought back home today so I could put her in with a blue cock. I have a black pen finally set up for breeding so if the girls ever lay again I am ready to start hatching. Some of my blue hens have started laying but I can't put them with a Rooster till mid Feb or until I decide whether or not I am showing them at Newnan.
I have two more hatches coming off of a pair i am breeding then I am cleaning the Dicki incubator before I set more. I don't hatch in it but I have a mildew problem in the back side. I don't know why. Does anyone else have that problem in there cabinet bators after keeping water in the top tray for weeks on end.

This girl right here is year old and to dark and has shading on color. Her lacing is good and her type is fabulous. I hate that she has such poor coloring She is pretty though

Julie, we just need to get you a crown..you are the queen of black and blue English orps..My lord that female type is just beautiful...

Im wondering what you have to do you tone down that coloring?

She is absolutely gorgeous sometimes I prefer that dark smokey blue color over the lighter color blues.

Would that contribute to the buffed laced white or solid buff?

It would remove the blue factor that will plague you unless you get rid of it. You will have the luck of the draw on lacing, but it's what I would try first.

I had the same problem until I start use rain water, now I melt the snow and no more problem.

From what I understand, you tone it down by not hatching eggs from a bird with the darker blue color like this one. Shame, she has such nice shape and type, she's otherwise worth breeding. You'll get an assortment of darks/lights from blue/splash breedings anyway, but some will be darker blue and some lighter. Biggest percentile of the more show worthy light blues will be from those that are lighter themselves. As I say, shame that our eye wants the light color. They are all worthy and this girl looks wonderful.
