Interesting rooster...
I am unsure of his jubilee status. He is mostly black with only vague hints if red, he also has no tail to speak of (rump less orpington... Don't think it will catch on) He is just getting his dark red combs, and is not crowing yet... Do you think he will get a tail? He almost looks more mottled to me than Millie fleur.

I call him Fugly.

I just texted a bud of mine and he gave me permission to share his photos and just texted these to me. This is his 100% imported LF Lavender roo. Everyone meet Big Boy. I gotta say I think this guy is awesome and one of the best imported lav roos I have seen in the states for his age. Just to be clear he is not mine and belongs to a friend of mine. I have eggs in my bator now sired by him. We r teaming up in an effort to improve each others lavs by making splits with my imported orps.

Yes he will get a tail. I gotta say I immediately thought mottled. How old is this guy? I had a blue roo last year that never grew a tail til he was 7 months old and it ended up being a perfectly round tail like a cochin.

the thing about name dropping, its not always name dropping when someone wants to know where your stock came from. you tell them. If you got your stock from a reputable breeder then prospective buyers should know that you did your homework and purchased from the best to start with. once you start breeding they are of course your lines, because its you making the decisions. So telling everyone to be aware of anyone who "name drops" is not the best advice out there. It does hold true if the person claims to have gotten birds from big name breeder but that is where doing your homework comes in. Not all of us are liars and cheats. I dont sell breeding stock, just have offspring of birds that came from another breeder on here. That might change though, and if it does I wont hesitate to answer about where I got my stock from.

I was accused of "name dropping" on Bob Blosi's HERITAGE LARGE FOWL thread. And Bob, who is one of the best APA Plymouth Rock & Rhode Island breeder's on BYC, came in and pointed out just what you are sayin. It is important to know the prospective line you want from a given breeder. OR IF you have added something into the line. One of the breeder's I got some nice Blacks from, calls it when you breed a similar line of a given variety of breed "keeping it the family". She says, and rightfully so, that common blood can and does seem to combine genetics to give a certain line's look when bred together. I feel it is just good practice to let everyone know who should take credit for how my birds look. I have a Brown/Red that has alot of the UK traits that came down from my breeding a Black mutt mix to my Akers Buffs. There is alot of fluff he passes down.
After a generation or two of doing your own thing, then you can say it is your line and "so & so" gave me my start. I always tell folks where my birds came from. In the case of my Buffs, I appreciate and collect as many of Doug Akers line as I can, he is a local Buff breeder and one of the best in my area, but then I breed them to my Akers/Britt birds to ad my own scent on my birds. Many have done this with Julie's (Bamma's) birds. Some of the best Blacks I shown against has her line mixed with one of our better APA lines. Now these folks are more wanting an APA look since their showing. In the APA show world it is a given that a breeder tells anyone who is interested in buying their birds how they were made and who to give credit too. So I don't go for the the term "name dropping" as an insult, it is giving credit to those who deserve it. And that is not me.

Should have seen Him a couple months ago- lol. It would have been too imbarrasing to admit he was mine. Now I call him that because it stuck. I actually like his color right now- just hope he gets a proper tail.

Christabelle, that baby of yours will grow a tail. He's cute. He'll go through a phase DragonLady calls "Chief 2 Tail Feathers" then, slowly, he'll be beautiful.
