We got our first Chocolate Bantam Orp egg from the pair we got from pips&peeps! We were super surprised they started laying already.
Now, if I can teach her to lay in the NESTBOX and not the GROUND, that will be another thing...

Thanks, Walt! they are getting semi-fermented feed with a bit of calf manna in there. Supplemented about once a week with some meat/fat leftovers. These are in magnificent condition....great job!
Walt
He does indeed eat almost non-stop. Hungry would have been a good name for him. At first he was Oliver, as in, "can I have more, please?"Sarah, those golden beauties will add sunshine to even a dreary day.Have you weighed that boy? I don't know how he can grow feathers with that big build he is growing at the same time? He must eat non stop.
Lynne, ditto for your trio. You can tell you don't change the color in your pictures! When you have the real deal, it shows!!! They are truly golden.
Great weekend everyone!
Good idea! And mealworms are so easy to grow, you can literally just forget about them but they do best if you throw them some vegetable scraps every week or whatever. Just don't let moths get in there. It's just refreshing to look at actual pictures. I spend much time, in fact too much time, looking at GL around the world it seems. Only to closely look and see that they've been altered. I don't plan on importing anytime soon, or if at all, but it would be nice to have confidence that what I see would in fact be the parent stock. UGH! Nothing's ever easy.
I do have a solution for your winter feeding! You won't like it though. I can send you all you would need for a mealworm farm. 100% protein that costs you nothing but an occasional kitchen scrap. Can't beat it.
I am hoping to get some ideas here. For years I have used stock tanks for brooders. Well they take up a lot of room and thinking about doing something a little different this year. I am wanting to get some ideas. What do ya'll use for brooders or what does our setup look like? I would like to do something stackable if possible, and easy to clean and senitize is preferred. I love the idea of GQF brooders but they are so pricey. I also just saw the GQF Start and Grow Unit. Wow, great idea but still pricey. Anyways would love to hear some thoughts from ya'll!! Thank you.![]()
