Hey guys, my chicks are about 3.5 weeks old now and some of them have really started sparing. No blood yet, just wondering how long I can leave the males in together safely before new digs need to be had. Will be moving them out into a much larger enclosure this weekend so hopefully the extra room and sunshine will help their moods. I guess these could be hens vying for dominance over each other. Really don't know what to expect as I have never had straight run or EOs before. How long have you all been able to keep your EOs together until weeding out the ones you want to keep?

The sparing is fun and practice when they get older. As far as leaving them together, it will be a long time till you have to move them. They probably will not have any issues as far as blood fighting until puberty. Some males never fight. Some females are ruffer than any male you will ever have.

As far as weeding out..if they are show potential/breeder potential and they have a DQ they go into the freezer camp.

I have kept each group together until they themselves have forced me to move them to some other camp.(I have many camps)
breeder camp, show camp, laying camp, freezer camp, sale camp, and trade camp.

A newly rehabed baby Aframe..we are re-wiring the three Aframes with weasle proof wire..Im going to put shingles on the hut after tar paper..

Is this a line/inbreeding issue?

Mine were really fertile at the beginning and now 4wks later they are starting to be sketchy. They were in with a few boys, so maybe this cockerel isn't quite doing his job like he should be. The girls slowed up on laying, too. Out of 5 girls, I was getting 2-4 eggs a day. Now I am getting 1. Of course, the best layer is the girl with white ear lobes.

Dont know if it is or not, but I did not care for the color fadeing like it was either, They were just not for me, & they could not take the heat at all & here in the South it gets hot !!!
