The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

apparently I have super hatchers... today is day 19 and I had to go somewhere this morning so when I got back I was going to lock down, take out the turner and add more water etc... I got home, they are ALL pipped or zipped and one hatched already... think they could have waited for me!!! soon as they are done, they are going out under the broody who ruined her eggs, day 27 for her. so she gets wet babies and egg shells shoved under her tonight. she will be soooo happy!! before she came here she was almost through a set when someone decided she didnt need to hatch any and smashed all her eggs, she was heartbroken and screamed for 2 weeks. I let her set on a few and she got off them and then went in the wrong box when I was not home so they didnt make it. she will be happy to have 7 to raise up now.,

Made me happy to read she is getting chicks.....................

I got out and took a few photos of the birds. Most of my adults were lost but I have a lot of juveniles of various ages.

These are the youngest:

These are a little older:

Older still:

Julie, I haven't hatched a single chick this year, believe it or not.

I never replaced Neville after loosing him last year... I feel like for a long time I lost my "will" to breed after losing my big boy, you know?

I've got the itch again though, after almost a year, I think I'll get back into it this fall. You and Roger will be receiving emails from me about hatching eggs or chicks, don't you worry.

I still would love some babies from that typey-cobby boy of yours, he was always my favorite.

School has kept me busy, and I decided not to take summer classes so I doubled up on my work load to make up for it. Getting back in school this fall and hatching chicks sounds like a good plan to me.

I don't think my ladies are minding the single life, their feathers have never looked better without a rambunctious roo around... It's been warm lately (warm in the Bay Area is anything over 80 degrees LOL) the girls have been enjoying the cool dirt underneath the trees.

What a nice photo, you couldn't have lined them up better if you had tried- very pretty girls!

She will be so happy. I love it when I can do that and get one off the nest and have a brooder I don't have to tend to.

Alright, here is one of the new bantam chicks I got. This girl is by far the biggest of all 10 except for one on the males. She's in that "awkward teenager stage"
Very cute!! Feather-wise, she looks like my little roo but mine has some bald streaks down his back and has WAY bigger wattles lol. My 4 'girls' are much more feathered out than the male and have no wattle development at all. One has a shorter tail than the other 3 but she is the smallest and so dainty, so I'm thinking its a girl.
I will try and take some pics of my bantam chocolates. They are almost 6 weeks old. I don't know where they get all their energy from..they run circles around all the other breeds of babies I hatched them with lol. They pretty much don't stop unless they are either eating or sleeping. Are all chocolate bantams like this???
