The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

I hope not
Me too..

Its hard enough walking around with out tripping on a bird as it is. Impossible to sit in a chair or the picnic table.
My DH today was crabbing about the birds. He is building me a brick chicken house and they were all over him and his tools. I enjoyed someone else getting mobbed for once. I got my cleaning done in half of the time. Even the adults came back into the chicken yard to help him. I do enjoy their curiosity.

Was able to snap a few pictures of a few of my orps yesterday :) I am so new to the orps so any advice on the birds I have is very very very appreciated :) Love checking this forum out with all the info on this lovely breed! Thanks!!!

I am not sure I can offer any advise. Your birds look healthy and pretty. You have some lovely birds..enjoy them and keep up the good work.

Allen... that rooster is unreal..really he is...awsome choice...I am not sure who bill bacon is as I was never a buff person , till now.. I think he won some really big english awards but other than that dont know much about him..people often throw names around and I sit here and think, shrugs? I dont know what that means...bet he has some really stunning birds thou....I do know who pownell is thou, read many articles on him.. I try to read a lot on different UK and continental breeders, but have to work my way back to US breeders.. all interesting to me..
Bill Bacon is a Longtime High Quality Orp Breeder from York Pa. He almost never sold Buffs, he has started selling a few recently. I believe he sold 3 trios at Sussex Show this Spring. Romig will know him. Have to say, I Really like the Color on Most Import Buff Male Birds. I was not surprised you won at Twin Tier. I think Vickie's assessment of the Import Orps (Underfluff, Feather Width and Pigment) is mostly accurate and that they have been bred fairly close to our standard however; someone (Wherever they came from modified them) from original Pownall Stock.

I messed up. I didn't post correctly should have Quoted Renie. That being said When they Pullets approach Point of lay They Will Squat down for you to Pet Them but petting is not what they are Looking For.

Thepeoplewho stole my birds knew what they were looking for. They took a young male from Marc and a young female to go with him.
Vickie, Did you ever Have a suspicion of a Specific Person or Persons Taking Them? I would think it would be a small group of people with enough interest to actually do something like that. The birds are still very recognizable someone should have a clue by now.

Hello
My wife and I are starting in orpingtons, and have spent the last 15 months going from 150 hatchery birds to 21 broody hens who have mostly also raised a set of chicks. Now we want to plan for next year.. for breeding a old fashioned broody flock.. At this point we have save out so far ten young hens to keep. We are looking for roosters from a broody flock to bring in and preserve our "broody genes" Do you have such to sell (or trade).. or can you recomend others ?
We are ten miles east of Portage Wisconsin.. an hour north of Madison.
Thank you .. Jim and Lin 608-617-3425
