really made my day. there were 16 orps entered. Proud of his sister too, she had some feathers missing from the roo. the hen saddle slipped and when it was wet she lost some feathers. I showed them anyway, it was more about fun for me and I had a really good time. Atlas is only 9 months old. almost could not get him through the door of the show cage
I was happy to see my friend Carol Dry come up and visit even though its a 4 hour drive for her, she took home a couple of Atlas chicks and a sister or two. (dont tell her but I am pretty sure she got 7 out of 9 roos in that batch)
My biggest screw up though, loading birds to take to the show, I could not figure out why I only had 5 with leg bands and one without. there was a total of 8 in the pen. I got to the show and started cooping in and when I got the last bird out of the crate I realized they were all black!!! I had one blue entered!!! she was hiding in the nest box in the dark and I missed her. had to race back home and meet my other half standing in the driveway with the crafty blue girl, and race back to the show and get her in the cage by 9 am, it was 2 minutes too when I ran in the door lol they had already started judging and orps were first!!! ack!! no time to fluff them up and get the shavings out of their petticoats but oh well, we did ok anyway. The blue girl ended up RV too. I pulled most of the coop cards but lost a few in my truck somewhere. I think I was 1 2 3 4 in blacks, and RV in blue. I also put my Jubilee in AOV, judge wrote size and type on her card... lol did not have the chance to ask about the type, I know she is small. didnt help she was right next to the speckled sussexx....Our Partridge Orps have now laid an egg 2 days in a row, looking forward to hatching some baby Partridges, now if the Crele would start laying. I keep incouraging them but I don't think they care.
