The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

WOW, what a great black hen.

And, I've got to agree with you Nellie. I thought I was the only one having to play "chicken police" with wordings on auction/web sites. But I am glad others are doing the same as it is important for potential buyers to know the truth before buying.

I remember someone saying on here awhile back that once you purchase a flock, and begin your breeding program, they become your own line as there is no way to verify what has been added to the mix genetically.

I think it is fine to say where you bought your birds, but not OK to say:

"My birds came from TheFancyChick - I bought them from Pam's cousin who bought them from Henry who got them at a swap meet from a guy up in Alabama who said he got them DIRECTLY for TheFancyChick."...........:gig     Whaat.....

(the story is true, the names have been changed to protect the innocent  )

I agree, while I have birds that have come fro
Some.great breeders and importers once I change from that original format they are now mine. Most of which I.will breed for one to two generations then Change the pen and now its my line. I would like to breed birds I am proud of.

Anyone interested in eggs from an all black pen? (almost, there is one blue girl in there) I have all of my show birds penned together and they are all black except etta. I should have good fertility in the next week or so as they have been together a week now.

I am interested in some of your black orp eggs. :) send me a pm and let me know when you have them and how much. :)

As well they should.

I know why people do it but I still don't understand it. I would rather be proud of my birds than someones I bought. I have customer ask all the time where my birds came from or who's they are. I tell them they are mine if they are. Now I have a GFF unrelated trio of Coronation Sussex that I have not messed with just for genetic diversity so even though I own them, I did not breed them.

I have new pics of the Buff Delaware crew

Finally we got boys! The issue with the boys was we started out with White Delaware Orps covered by a buff roo to produce Buff Delaware Orps. But genetically that combination will only produce Buff Delaware girls. So then we had to go with a lemon cuckoo roo over the Buff Delaware girls to get some boys. We can finally see that they have the Columbian gene

. Two double barred boys and one single barred so far have the gene (Buff Delaware is actually Lemon Cuckoo Columbian). We can 't tell till they feather out at about 4-6 weeks old.
As they mature and get their adult feathers the black around their neck will darken.

To the untrained eye they just look like lemon cuckoo

But if you look really close you can see it .......
