Beautiful babies!

Thank you all.

The chicks are great and Joy truly is a wonder to work with. She loves these birds just as much (if not more) than we all do, it really shows when you're talking with her.

I've been at work since earlier this afternoon and all I've done is think about my little ones at home! I just got a moment to check the forum and I "oohed" and "awwed" over the babies all over again. I wish I were at home with them, I keep telling myself it's only for a few more hours...

I wonder if those chunkers have finished all of their food yet...

I called everywhere around here trying to find rice husks/rice hulls and nobody carries them. I'm going to try searching online tomorrow to see if I can find them. I really like the look of them from the photos.

You home yet Jeremy? You know that all your compliments are making my head swell don't you?

I am just so happy that your chicks made it safe and sound and that you are thrilled with them !! I know you'll give them a great home.

Germaine - they're cooking !!!

That's odd, every feed store that I've been to in the Bay Area has them! They are pretty cool, they seem just as absorbant as the shavings but they don't get smelly as quickly. And when the babies scamper across them it makes this cute shuffling sound.

20 more minutes Joy!

Then I'll be home, face at the brooder, with my camera at hand ready to snap some cute shots.

fyi, yes I turned jeremy onto rice hulls, but I'll tell you they do still make dust...NOT as much dust, but still dust. My feed store puts the babies on that corn cob stuff (I'm not a fan) Maybe we should all invent something that has NO dust and get rich....so we can invest in many many more english imports!

hmmm, since I've heard about chickens eating styrofoam and it being ok...maybe it could be styro-pellets... ok my mind is working

Yeah, the dust is still there but it's much, much more managable. I don't have to dust everything daily now!

I agree, those corn cob things are weird. They seem too hard, like they would hurt the little one's feet.

I'm sure there's some biproduct from the food industry that we could capitolize on... hm... old McDonald's french fries? They get hard pretty fast...

Germaine, we will all be counting with you!

I am going to check out this rice hull thing, too- have no idea if there's any around here for sale, but my feed store man is pretty good at finding stuff.

Jeremy- take care of that precious splash. I think if it's a she, you can name it after me!
