The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Sooo.... I went to candle mine for the first time, plugged up the egg candler, and the light bulb blew!

I ordered some more and a 2-pack of those bulbs cost me $9!

Well, with winter coming on, thought I'd ask what everyone feeds their birds? Snacks? Treats? I'm always looking for new ideas and better feeding.

Thanks Kandace - Mine are not a big fan of greens. I feed them to them, but they aren't enthusiastic at all over them. The favorite winter treat for mine is a nice hot bowl of steaming oatmeal with bananas and plain yogurt. They love it on cold mornings and gobble it up like they haven't eaten for weeks. I have to get out of the way because globs of oatmeal fly everywhere !! I need to get a video of it.

PS...Kandace - I'm going to give "Jack Frost" a try today !! I also can't wait to try the pumpkin. Julie and I were just talking about pumpkin soap yesterday !! Might have to steal your recipe.

We have a winter garden of turnips, collards, and mustard. They get the leaves that are "scrap" plus some scratch in their diet when the temps drop into the 30s at night.

Joy, mine like fresh cut up kale and sometimes I throw spinach or cabbage greens to them for a winter green when they can't get out to roam the yard. I don't do much on snacks and treats but they do like the calf manna or pro manna added to their feed.

I just bought a bunch of pumpkins after Halloween. Cheap. The chickens love them. I also make up oatmeal and toss in blueberries, cranberries, chopped garlic cloves, grapes, BOSS, whatever I have on hand. I use alot of yogurt, too.... about once a week anyway.

Have you ever read postings or threads by Resolution? He has great feeding tips.

Oh, yeah! Mine love the calf manna, also!
