Our (adult) kids should be arriving anytime. They are coming from Iowa. Mike (DH) told them we were not roasting a turkey, but instead are roasting one of our Jersey Giants. Hmmmm, wonder if they will buy that one!

Hope you all have a great day!

hi everyone,
I have not posted in a long time...but follow the thread and really enjoy the pictures and information.

As a reminder, I am the proud custodian of 7 ,1/2 english orps , six months old now.
3 blue roo's, 1 splash roo, 1 each black, splash and blue pullets.

They have been a sorce of fasination since day 1.....................they are huge and have a different personality from any chicken I have had in the past..I think they see them selves as royalty,or at least act that way.
Proud, independent and calm.
My husband, who is as crazy about our chickens as I am, keeps asking me to increase our flock of this breed.
He is hooked.

I need a new computer before I can send pictures...but am looking now and hope to purchase in the next few weeks.......... It is so confusing with all the new things available. Makes my brain hurt trying to figure out what I need and will use.

I do have a question if someone could help.
My Splash roo has a mahogany red in the upper part of his wings.......is this common?
And where the heck did red come from?

Guaranteed, when I get the new computer...I will send loads of pic's.
Hope every one's holiday was great.
Toni

Here are two I hatched out from BamaChicken this spring. I have two younger pullets as well. All BE-YOOTIFUL!!! Thank you Julie!!! (Sorry the pics are so blurry. They were penned up out of the way today while someone worked on the roof. The light was dim in that pen. Oh well. At least you can sorta see what they look like a little bit, fi you squint and kinda turn your head LOL)

Love this thread! beautiful orps! I am new to chickens. have a couple blues and am going to a chicken show next weekend and hopefully picking up some more. I have been reading this and other threads and trying to familiarize myself with the growth stages and feathering that happens as they grow. Is there somewhere on here that shows the different colors at different ages and stages? As in all these pretty blues, what ages are they? the blacks, they kind of throw me as they appear slightly different in feather type at certain ages.
Would anyone be willing to post pics of every 4 weeks of age and the stages they go through every 4 weeks? in different colors? its interesting to me to see the changes that occur.
I had posted for help on rooster or hen, lol turned out I had 3 roosters! didnt know what to look for. but feathers are quite different now that I researched and asked. dang!! roosters...

Red Reiner if you look back to the beginning of this thread there are progression pics posted of two lines of English.

Toni the blacks carry a gold gene and sometimes it will cause red in the hackles and wing feathers of the blues. Just cull the ones with red and keep the ones without it and keep breeding.

Bama I have looked at almost every page on this thread lol, just to see the beautiful birds here

a lot of the pics do not list ages, thats kind of what I was getting at. So was just wondering if there was a pictorial somewhere with ages. You happen to have some really nice birds and see that you have gotten quite a few started with nice ones, I think you are helping me but in a long roundabout way lol.

and that would be why I said almost every page lol. I missed 5!!!!!!! thats a great example. I see at 8 weeks you see the very pointy saddle feathers on a roo? is that typical?

and that pretty hen, at 3 months or so the blunt saddle feathers are all there, making it fairly easy to tell boys from girls.
